McLaughlin & Harvey are one of the leading Building and Civil Engineering Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland. We are seeking to recruit an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to work on our railway projects in Northern Ireland. Reporting to the Head of Health and Safety, the Health and Safety Advisor will provide support and guidance to our project teams and will be actively involved in working closely with our Client, Translink (NI) Limited. Responsibilities Promotion of our health and safety ethos and culture at all levels within the Company and with our Subcontractors. Ensure working practices are safe and comply with relevant legislation. Review Subcontractor documentation including safe systems of works. Assist in the preparation of health and safety strategies and in the development of internal policies and procedures. Lead and deliver health & safety initiatives. Assist in the in-house training of Managers and Employees. Carry out regular site inspections to ensure policies and procedures are being fully implemented. Carry out accident / incident investigations. Ensure compliance with Translink and internal company procedures relating to Competency Management for all railway project staff, including direct and supply chain. Develop and update company procedures as and when required to ensure compliance with Competency Standards. Manage and update the company training and competency matrix to ensure training and mentoring is completed as required and ensure the associated records are maintained in line with company procedures. Liaise with the operations teams to arrange training, mentoring and assessments as required. Liaise with internal HR Department to book training and medicals as required. Carry out supply chain audits both H&S and Competency compliance. The successful candidate must be willing to work occasional nightshifts to carry out audits. Experience The successful Health and Safety Advisor will possess the following qualities / qualifications: Professionally qualified within Health and Safety field (NEBOSH/NCRQ, BSc or MSc in Safety). Northern Ireland Railways - Personal Track Safety Previous experience as a Health and Safety Advisor within the Railway industry. Thorough knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation. Accident and incident investigation experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills. IT Literate. Ability to work as part of a team and to positively influence others. Desirable Previous experience of Mentoring and Assessing Railway Safety Critical Competencies. CSCS Card Holder What's in it for you?
