Main duties of the job
The Principal Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate provision of statutory reporting and the analysis and development of accurate, insightful reports that inform and improve service provision to the organisation and externally.
The post holder will be accountable for the compilation and submission of many of the Trust's statutory returns and also demonstrate highly developed skills in analysis, interpretation and presentation of focused information to support the Trust's operational performance management and to inform decision making within the Trust.
The post holder will be a highly organised individual with strong attention to detail and a commitment to providing high quality and accurate information. They will have a progressive and proactive attitude; actively contribute to advancing the skill set and productivity of the team and wider organisation and be responsible for ensuring specialist and/or complex information is processed in accordance with Trust policies & procedures.
The role will involve investigating specialist or complex data issues. On occasions to also provide specialist advice to staff on systems and/or policy and develop or adapt complex software, information reports or analyse / interpret complex information / data or deliver specialist training.

Job responsibilities
Managerial responsibilities:
Ensure the submission of accurate returns from the Trust for the Department of Health, Area Team, Secondary User Service (SUS) and to meet other statutory requirements by the appropriate deadlines.
Ensure the provision of information for the Trust Board, the Clinical Divisions and senior managers throughout the Trust as outlined in the Service Level Agreements by the appropriate deadline to the required quality standards.
Ensure timeliness, accuracy and completeness of analytical information support to the Local Delivery Plan, Performance Management, Modernisation, National Service Frameworks and local strategic planning functions required by the Trust.
Working with the Head of BI and Performance and other senior managers in the Trust, to determine the requirements for routine and ad-hoc information service provision and standards to support clinical care and decision-making. To ensure that service arrangements are in place for these items including key performance indicators and that they are described in the Service Level Agreements for the Trust.
Ensure implementation of the local mechanisms for each system in the Trust to use the most current sets of national codes and Area Team standards i.e. GP codes, practice codes, other organisation codes, ethnic codes, etc. and including the appropriate dissemination and implementation of Data Set Change Notices.
Ensure that the Business Intelligence Team infrastructure is developed to be relevant, operationally stable and efficient. This will include designing, developing and adapting complex software using principally MS SQL and MS VB for applications.
Act as a BI liaison to the clinical divisions including attending divisional meetings and acting as a subject matter expert for the BI Team.
Manage junior staff in the Business Intelligence Team.
To motivate staff and ensure that personal objectives of the teams are centred on the service provision and customer service philosophy.
Develop across all disciplines within the Trust increased awareness of the importance of information management, standards and process management to ensure that the data accreditation standards are maintained and built upon.
Train staff in relevant information systems.
Support the Head of BI and Performance to deliver demand and capacity modelling by assisting divisions to assess capacity and demand for clinical services.
Person Specification
Education and Training
* Advanced Computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, and MS SQL Server reporting stack.
* Educated to degree level or have proven experience.
* Management Qualification or proven by experience.
* RTT rules training.
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge and participation in service development projects.
* Skilled at interpersonal communication including training others and presentations.
* Skilled in desktop applications in particular Microsoft Office.
* Knowledge of Trust procedures and protocols.
* Extensive knowledge of NHS Data Dictionary, Data Manual and CDS Manual.
* In-depth understanding of SUS requirements.
* Good knowledge of PAS.
