Digital Services bring trusted design, data and technology know-how to the delivery of lifelong learning. Digital Services are responsible for the digital information, systems and technologies used by staff and students across The Open University. Covering all aspects of digital technology at the OU, from sourcing and maintaining systems, through to providing frontline IT support for staff and students.
The Client Systems Team is part of the Infrastructure Products Team responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of the Client infrastructure for the Open University.
Information Technology are seeking a Systems Engineer to work as part of the team to assist with the day-to-day running, maintenance and development of the Client infrastructure consisting of Microsoft technologies including Windows O/S, Active Directory, Azure, EndPoint management, Intune, MAC O/S and scripting.
Key Responsibilities
* The System Engineers will be involved in the development and implementation of internal applications and client lifecycle systems.
* They will act as third-line support to troubleshoot complex issues and support our diverse user base and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
* Engage with both IT colleagues and business partners to create development roadmaps that keep our clients and associated management systems sustainable and innovative.

Education, qualifications, and training
Essential
* Educated to A level standard/equivalent in a related subject or work experience at a comparable level.
Knowledge work and other relevant experience
Essential
* Experience of managing Windows client systems
* Experience of managing macOS client systems
* Experience of vulnerability management, patching and security hardening of OSES
* Experience of Anti-Virus central management (i.e. Windows Defender or Sophos Central)
* Experience of writing and deploying scripts in Windows or macOS environments (including languages such as PowerShell, WMI/WQL, VBS, bash/zsh).
* Experience of managing System Center Configuration Manager and / or Microsoft Endpoint.
Desirable
* Experience of developing and deploying internal business systems in large complex organisations
* Experience in administration of Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune and System Center Configuration Manager and their integrations)
* Experience of using Group Policy to configure client environments
* Experience of administrating macOS client systems through JAMF Pro
* Experience of implementing and managing remote access systems in Windows (such as DirectAccess, Always On VPN)

It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office.
