We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our UK Water Resources team across our UK offices, by recruiting an experienced Principal Water Engineer. We have an opportunity for an experienced Principal Water Engineer to join our growing Water team. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Water, Environment and Infrastructure sectors. The Principal Water Engineer will be accountable for the design delivery of allocated project deliverables, focusing on Rainwater and Water management infrastructure. The individual will also be responsible for the management of a small team of engineers including identifying training needs and overseeing technical competence and quality assurance. Main Duties Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Principal Water Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to : Undertake design of rainwater management engineering solutions and/or SuDS solutions. Conduct hydraulic modelling and flood risk assessments using software packages such as TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or Flood Modeller. Provide technical leadership in the development of sustainable and climate-resilient water management solutions. Ensure designs meet relevant water and environmental regulations. Collaborate with environmental and ecological consultants to assess the impacts of projects on local habitats and biodiversity. Lead the water and flooding element of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and support environmental permitting processes. Communicate with the Client and with Project Engineers to understand project requirements. Conduct research and investigations to inform project design and delivery. Plan, specify and manage packages of River engineering design work. Collaborate with project teams to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions. Work with the wider project team in the presentation of programme/project information to others and external stakeholders. Assist the team leadership in the development of Client relationships and contribute to the training and development of other team members. Implement design solutions with a focus on environmental sustainability and compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation Lead project design phases from preliminary to detailed design, ensuring alignment with client expectations and regulatory standards. Liaise with clients and ensure their requirements are effectively communicated to the team. Adhere to stringent quality assurance and control processes, ensuring that all deliverables meet the highest standards. Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM 2015 Regulations. Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the team. Effective management of and response to project related correspondence. Support the Engineering Manager and Project Director where required. Travel to client offices in the North West of England to lead project meetings. Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Water/Rivers related field such as Geography/Civil Engineering, or HNC/HND in Rivers Related Field such as Geography with significant experience in Water Catchment Management. Extensive Experience working in the Water Sector with a proven track record in leading the technical delivery of Rainwater Management and/or SuDS projects. Professional Memberships Chartered status is highly desirable, preferably with ICE, CIWEM, or a similar recognised institution. Technical The candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of principals of Rainwater Management and/or SuDs, Have a working knowledge in design such as attenuating rain gardens, bio-retention systems, constructed wetlands, ponds, swales etc. Working knowledge of hydraulic models and the ability to check the work of others. Working knowledge of Scours is preferable Have a working knowledge of relevant standards, manuals and guidance, including Sewers for Adoption. Have a working knowledge of relevant standards (BS / ISO / Other international standards). Knowledge of relative duty holders under CDM 2015 Why SYSTRA?
