Summary of Job Description The Exploratory Microbiology team works and behaves with an entrepreneurial spirit to generate new product concepts for bioMérieux’s development pipeline. The Lead Mechanical Engineer’s responsibility will be to contribute technical, scientific, and engineering expertise to the conceptualization, design, and development of high quality medical diagnostic products. Main Accountabilities: Through his/her creativity and engineering expertise, contributes to the research and/or development of proof-of-concept in vitro medical devices and instruments. Works hands-on in the engineering/biology labs to evaluate and optimize product concepts while adhering to established scientific practices and regulated design control policies. Provides complete system vision of how to tackle technical or business problems within the scope of assigned projects. Works within a cross-functional department of engineers, chemists, and biologists, to develop and improve procedures/methods that facilitates the research and development of quality products and mitigates product related risks Provides recommendations of improvements which integrate business criteria and assure quality assurance policies and good scientific practices are respected. Position Requirements: Conceptualizes, analyzes, tests, and optimizes complex mechanisms, components, and assemblies. Creates and executes test plans to evaluate complex designs. Participates in early project phases to determine functional requirements and early design concepts. Generates detailed CAD designs using sound engineering principles and design for manufacturability. Ability to assess design choices with respect to functional requirements and business constraints. Strong cross-functional collaborative design and project skills. Required experience, skills and qualifications: Candidate must be well grounded in mechanical engineering design principles with demonstrated hands-on design competency. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Education/Experience: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field Ph.D. 6 years of relevant experience M.S. 8 years of relevant experience B.S. 10 years of relevant experience Training/proficiency in Mechanical CAD (SolidWorks preferred), PLM systems, Design for Manufacturability, engineering drawing standards including GD&T, and rapid prototyping. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a variety of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, machining, sheet metal, etc. Desired experience, skills and qualifications: Product development experience in a regulated environment Experience working with complex medical instrumentation and disposables Knowledge of clinical microbiology Design, analysis, and modeling experience involving solid and fluid mechanics, microfluidics, and heat transfer Design, analysis, and modeling experience with optomechanical systems Experience with intellectual property
