Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work for Lucky Ewe, an established and developing charity which offers work placements for people with additional needs. We are now in the process of moving to our new long-term home, a 71-acre smallholding with a 25-year lease at Lucky Ewe Farm, Cupar, KY15 5RR.
Responsibilities
1. Lead in building a new farm on 71 acres of good arable land for community benefit.
2. Accountable for the health and welfare of a flock of dairy sheep.
3. Plan and prepare authentic work experiences for our interns.
4. Deploy staff, adult volunteers, and agricultural contractors.
5. Communicate well with all colleagues, volunteers, interns, and trustees.
6. Supervise daily operations with responsibility for health, safety, and safeguarding.
7. Work with Lucky Ewe Trustees to develop the farm to its full potential.
8. Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment using hand tools and power tools.
9. Manage water systems to ensure proper watering for livestock and crops.
10. Oversee animal care activities, ensuring the health and well-being of all animals on-site.
11. Train and mentor team members on operational procedures and best practices.
12. Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities to identify areas for improvement.
13. Maintain accurate records of operational activities, including animal EID and veterinary records, logs, and inventory.
Experience
* Proven experience in sheep production.
* Experience in using hand tools, power tools, and performing equipment repairs.
* Previous experience in dairying is advantageous.
* Experience of maximizing grazing and reducing sheep parasitic burden.
* Regenerative farming experience is advantageous.
* Knowledge of animal care practices is essential.
