Practice Development
To provide a learning leader role and a focus on the learning requirements for staff, commissioning learning and acting as an authority on practice improvement. To participate in audit activities that support the improvement of Nursing Practice and care standards. To lead or participate in programmes of work directed by Service Line Groups. To work collaboratively with the nursing team to develop processes that ensure patients, their carers, and families are directly involved in decisions which affect their care. Ensure that patient care records are multidisciplinary and that the standard of record keeping, patient assessment, care planning, risk assessment, and management are delivered in accordance with the Care Programme Approach. To initiate patient-focused interventions that recognise the diverse social, cultural, religious, and spiritual needs of the individual. Ensure that Quality Assurance, Governance and Risk Management Strategies are implemented at the ward level. To develop and monitor any action plans arising from Incident reporting.
Organisation and Environment
In conjunction with Ward Managers, develop and ensure that high standards are maintained throughout in-patient services in relation to a clean environment, catering standards, and infection control, paying particular attention to patients' privacy and dignity, and taking the appropriate action if problems arise. Work with Infection Control Nurse and Ward Managers to ensure that robust systems are in place to minimise the risk of hospital-acquired infection and maximising measures of control of infection spread. Promote the involvement of service users, relatives, carers, and advocates in the evaluation and development of services acting as the main point of contact for the PALS Officer. To investigate complaints and clinical incidents relating to Nursing Practice within the in-patient wards. Work with all members of the ward teams including when necessary during unsocial hours.
Education and Training
To work with all relevant parties to enhance the wards learning environment to support the training of pre-registration nurses, preceptorship programmes, and trained staff competencies. To commission, develop and promote learning networks that ensure best practice is in place and learning from incidents integral to practice improvements.
General Duties of all post holders
To undertake any other reasonable duty, which is appropriate to the band, when requested by Senior Staff. To be familiar with and comply with all Trust and departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
