Overview
Working: The role is office/hybrid based with occasional travel to other company/customer's sites in the UK or abroad.
The FPGA Engineer will be reporting to the FPGA Lead, joining their established multi-Engineer project team challenged with delivering robust and cost-effective designs for real-time power and motor control applications.
The FPGA Engineer will work within an FPGA-focused team environment where cooperation, innovation, and thoroughness are essential to develop FPGAs that successfully meet project objectives. Training and development opportunities for career progression are available with this role.
Specific responsibilities for the FPGA Engineer role will depend upon your skill set and level of seniority. Typically, you will be responsible for a wide range of FPGA activities covering all stages of the development lifecycle; from requirements through to implementation, verification, and validation of programmed devices.
Key responsibilities required for this role will include:
1. FPGA Implementation including requirements capture, RTL coding and physical stages
2. Definition of the conceptual structure and architecture of FPGA designs
3. Writing and execution of testbench code and other IV&V activities
4. Adherence to safety-related standards and processes and contributing to their development and maintenance
5. Model Based design techniques using Matlab/Simulink modelling and simulation
6. Requirements tracking, configuration control, incident reporting and project documentation
7. Lab support during hardware development stages
8. Inter-team and intra-team communications, including reviewing
Experience required will depend on level of seniority but include some of the following:
1. Degree or higher in electrical/electronic engineering or equivalent
2. Proven track record of FPGA/ASIC design
3. Comprehensive knowledge of VHDL with practical experience in successful projects
4. Experience of model-based design using tools such as Matlab/Simulink is preferable
5. Capability of working to formal FPGA/ASIC design processes is essential
6. Broad knowledge of digital electronics and other areas of engineering (e.g. systems, analogue/power electronics, mechanical, motors, etc)
7. Good knowledge of best practice design lifecycle process; gated design phases, design reviews
8. Good in front of customers; willing and able to make presentations
Desirable:
1. Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous
2. Experience in the Naval / Maritime domain would be advantageous.
