As an Assistant Accountant with us at Wincanton, you will play an important role within the Group Transport Finance Team. Within this proactive role you will support the operational & financial running of the business, ensuring management accounts processes are adhered to. You will challenge current processes and ways of working, championing continuous improvement across the wider team. As a function we bring together the day to day commercial & financial running of transport with the strategic controls to maximise the value that we bring to our customers and the wider group. The role is based at our Sainsburys distribution centre in Northampton. After initial training the role will be hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. Key Responsibilities: Responsible to produce weekly flash accounts for multiple transport locations. Responsible for both Wincanton and Customer period ends which involves prepayment and accrual journals. Be a subject matter expert for your area understanding & explaining variances to forecast, along with P&L analysis offering insight on underlying trends. Balance sheet reconciliation with supporting evidence for any provisions or deferrals including payroll reconciliations. Assist Finance Manager in production of annual budgets and forecasts for both Wincanton/ Customer and drive process improvements to boost value to our business and customers. Communicate effectively keeping our stakeholders well informed of any risks or opportunities within the P&L Production of contractual customer reporting packs. What will you bring to our team? Actively studying towards an accountancy qualification. Understanding of a logistics business desired but not essential. Be proactive, inquisitive with a passion for challenging teams to drive performance. Flexibility to respond positively and accurately to different internal and external customer requests. Have excellent PC skills including Excel (pivot tables, formulas etc).
