This post is a part-time locum Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgery post based at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This post is to provide support to the Paediatric Neurosurgery team. The locum will join a team of 4 Paediatric Neurosurgeons who provide comprehensive paediatric neurosurgical services to the South West of England serving a catchment population of approximately 5 million.
The Department currently undertakes approximately 550 paediatric neurosurgical procedures per annum and has a full range of paediatric neurosurgical facilities including a dedicated neurosurgical operating theatre with an intraoperative MRI suite, provision of paediatric robotic neurosurgery including deep brain stimulation, stereotactic EEG and robotic endoscopy. The hospital is a nationally designated centre for paediatric epilepsy surgery.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to support the Paediatric Neurosurgery Team. The applicant should be trained in functional and robotic neurosurgery and be able to support the delivery of these services. The post-holder should have full training in general paediatric neurosurgery which would include a minimum 12 month fellowship in Paediatric Neurosurgery in a major centre in the UK or international centre of excellence.

Qualifications and Training
* Full and specialist (Neurosurgery) registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
* Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or
* Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
* Higher academic qualification
Experience
* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Neurosurgery
* Able to take responsibility for delivering core service without direct supervision
* Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy
Clinical Knowledge and skills
* Up to date knowledge and experience of paediatric neurosurgery
* Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to paediatric neurosurgery
* Broad range of IT skills
Clinical Governance and Audit
* Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
* Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
* Positive approach to evidence based practice
* Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
Research
* Knowledge of the principles involved in research
* Evidence of involvement in research
* Evidence of peer reviewed research papers
* Ability to increase the academic profile of the department.
Teaching and Training
* Experience of teaching medical students.
* Experience of supervising trainees
* Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team
* Formal teaching qualification
