Summary:
Nijhuis Saur Industries are currently looking for a Senior Construction Manager to join our UK Project & Engineering team. The Senior Construction Manager will be responsible for leading projects through the construction and commissioning phases.
Nijhuis Saur Industries deliver integrated design solutions for the water industry. Projects could be clean water or wastewater solutions for UK Water Companies, Tier 1 contractors or Industrial clients. Projects encompass group technology with full MEICA, Civil & Structural packages.
Responsibilities include pre-execution planning, coordinating, and communicating with the client, sub-contractors, and other key stakeholders. The role will require coordination with the Designs, Project management, QHSE and Commissioning teams to deliver projects successfully.
The Senior Construction Manager will act as the key interface between the project team, contractors, and stakeholders, driving performance and ensuring alignment with project objectives and regulatory requirements.

Job Description:
* Overall responsibility for the successful implementation of the construction programme, meeting or exceeding client/contractual obligations.
* Responsible for the execution of contract documents including plans/specifications.
* Construction planning, site management and execution of construction activities.
* Act in accordance with the requirement for UK health and safety & CDM legislation.
* In depth knowledge of Construction requirements and subcontractor management.
* Start-up and commissioning plans, identifying associated resources as required.
* Review of the proposed design from a constructability perspective.
* Participate in Access, Lifting & Maintenance reviews.
* Experience of coordination between design teams and operational delivery.
* Support with programme and project controls activities including but not limited to, cost control, change management, schedule control, risk management, and reporting tools.
* Supervise delivery of the project, identify risks and opportunities and work with key stakeholders to optimise project delivery.
* Manage and develop the onsite supervisory/engineering team.
* Chair weekly meetings onsite to review performance and construction target deadlines, reporting progress and reasons behind any change within Project Review meetings. Ensuring the in-house team and subcontractors are working in a structured and cohesive way.
* Lead project meetings with client contractors, onsite personnel, and stakeholders.
* Monitor the contract progress and make recommendation for payments.
* Follow and implement a stringent health and safety policy onsite making sure a best-in-class safety environment is adhered to (health and safety policies, regulations, and acts).
* Confirm construction contractor programs are submitted, approved, and followed by all parties involved in the project.
* Maintain a solid working relationship with the client and subcontractor.
* Management of overall construction budgets, as well as weekly process completed by the site delivery teams (timesheets etc).
* Input in to the develop and implement plan for project completion.
* Supporting the preconstruction and construction teams in all aspects of construction delivery across all UK based projects.
* Liaise with client, in-house and subcontractor teams to ensure seamless transition from commissioning to asset ownership.
* Ensure the site management team are focussed to meet internal and external clients’ requirements, provide overall guidance and management to deliver project success.
* Responsibility for ensuring change and control, and early warning process is administered working closely with the Project Manager.
* Work closely with Procurement, Planning & Commercial teams to forecast the cost programme and monitor project costs with robust monthly CVR’s/Project reviews.
Project Leadership and Strategy
Develop and implement construction strategies, ensuring alignment with overall project goals and objectives.
Provide leadership and direction to construction teams, ensuring clear communication of project requirements and expectations.
Act as the primary point of contact for all construction-related matters, representing the project at stakeholder and client meetings.
Construction Planning and Execution
Oversee the preparation and implementation of construction plans, schedules, and resource allocation.
Ensure constructability reviews are conducted during the design phase to optimise construction efficiency and minimise risk.
Manage site mobilisation, logistics, and the sequencing of construction activities to maximise productivity and reduce downtime.
Drive adherence to project milestones, identified and addressing potential delays or bottlenecks.
Health, Safety and Environment (HSSE)
Ensure full compliance with HSE standards and policies across all construction activities.
Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture and addressing any non-conformances promptly.
Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
Ensure environmental protection and sustainability measures are integrated into construction practices.
Quality Management
Ensure construction activities are executed to the highest quality standards, in line with project specifications and contractual requirements.
Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) and drive corrective action plans.
Commercial and Contract Management
Monitor construction budgets and costs, ensuring projects are delivered within financial constraints.
Manage contract administration, ensuring compliance with NEC or similar contractual frameworks.
Identify and mitigate claims, variations, and scope changes.
Stakeholder and Interface Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
Act as a key point of contact for external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and local authorities.
Manage interfaces between engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless delivery.
Team Leadership and Development
Provide leadership, mentoring, and support to construction teams, fostering a high-performance culture.
Develop and implement training plans to build capability and ensure succession planning.
Drive team engagement and motivation, promoting a collaborative and solution-focused environment.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related degree (Preferred)
* 10 years + experience with onsite coordination, management of multiple subcontractors and suppliers, control of work areas and quality control on large-scale and complex water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
* Extensive experience within H&S Management in an operational setting, involving method statements, accident & incident investigation, understanding of current H&S legislation and competence in the use of H&S Management.
* Strong leadership and management skills.
* Knowledge and experience of CDM regulations
* Experience, and/or knowledge of being the Principal Designer /Contractor.
* CSCS Card.
* SMSTS qualified.
* First Aid qualified.
