ABOUT THE ROLE - The role is a Part-time position 0.8 FTE
The Mental Health Practice Lead provides clinical leadership and best practice guidance to AFLW and AFL Club Psychologists, Club Doctors and other club healthcare team members, as well as AFL, AFLW and State League Umpire performance and wellbeing psychologists. The role exists to support the mental health and wellbeing of AFLW and AFL Players and Umpires’ mental health care planning.
Working closely with the 18 elite clubs, the role will assist in case coordination and the management of centralised specialist mental health referral networks. Clinical leadership of the role will entail embedding best practice principles to ensure safe and effective player mental healthcare.
The role will contribute to professional development of club psychologists, umpire performance and wellbeing psychologists and player development managers, and contribute to workforce development and establishing a pipeline of psychologists and wellbeing staff in elite sport.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities :
1. Support AFLW and AFL Club Psychologists, Club Neuropsychologists, Club Doctors and Club Healthcare teams to coordinate holistic mental healthcare for players
2. Coordinate multidisciplinary care providers across the system that places players at the centre of care
3. Implement a best practice stepped care approach to Player mental healthcare
4. Manage the centralised mental healthcare referral network funded by the AFL
5. Assist with response and coordination after critical incidents
6. Facilitate professional development activities for Club Psychologists and Umpire Performance and Wellbeing psychologists
7. Partner with post-graduate and registrar psychology training programs to support workforce capability in early career psychologists to work in elite sport
8. Provide supervision to psychologists

8. Strong understanding of healthcare policy and governance requirements
9. Experience working from evidence informed approaches with athletes across the life span.
10. Demonstrated cultural competence in Indigenous health approaches and cultural responsivity when working with athletes from diverse cultural backgrounds
11. Demonstrated competence in working with LGBTQI+ communities
Requirements
1. Full Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, AHPRA
2. Minimum 5 years as a registered practitioner
3. Area of Practice endorsement – e.g. Sport and Exercise, Health, Clinical
4. Current Working with Children Check
5. Psychology Board of Australia Approved Accredited Supervisor
