An opportunity has arisen for a Head of Engineering - Mechanical to join the Technical department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.
About the role
To lead the Mechanical Engineering Group to deliver design, development and technical sign-off of components & systems to meet customers and project targets.
What you will do
* To lead the Mechanical Engineering Group to deliver the design, development and technical sign-off of components & systems to meet customers and project targets
o Technical authority of mechanical architectures, systems and components
o Development includes mechanical validation planning and responsibility up to system and product-breakdown level.
o Gateway custodian
* Govern the mechanical R&D technology development for future application, including engaging with academic and professional institutions, and supplier base.
* Leading supply of capacity and capability to meet business engineering demand, including recruitment, contracting and outsourcing function capability.
* Allocation of Engineering resource to deliver above through project teams in business units
* Developing the framework and methodologies to deliver the career and capability development of the Mechanical Engineering Group incl onboarding, early careers, talent identification etc
* Manage the Mechanical Engineering Group Learning and Development budget in support of capability and career development.
* Leading & managing the outsourcing of work packages where capacity vs capability requires to ensure delivery of projects.
* Approve the process, system and way of working in Mechanical Engineering including efficiency measurement
o Includes selection of correct toolsets, development of in-house toolsets, training engineers and wider stakeholders, capturing lessons-learnt.
* Set and approve the Mechanical Engineering Group strategy in terms of objectives, growth plan, organisational structure, delivery, task tracking.
* Joint ownership of Product roadmap, to join market pull (from business units), manufacturing strategy from organisation and technology from engineering and R&D.
* Aid resolution of complex cross-functional technical issues
* Aid Business Units with business development opportunities, including client meetings, feasibility work, tender and costing support.
About you
* A Degree (or equivalent) in mechanical, automotive or aerospace engineering.
* Extensive experience of design and development in the automotive, heavy industry, locomotive, aerospace or consumer product sectors.
* Experience of departmental management.
* Experience of managing client and other stakeholders.
* Experience in a high-paced environment.
* Chartered Engineering or another recognised professional qualification is beneficial
