Job Description An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced and inspiring Firearms Instructor to take on the role of Deputy Chief Firearms Instructor – Inspector. This is a high-profile position leading a dedicated team of Training Sergeants, Instructors, Compliance staff, Armourers and Administrators. About The Role As the Deputy Chief Firearms Instructor, you and your team will play a pivotal role in assisting the organisation, supervision and implementation of the Firearms training plan in order to meet the needs of the Tri-Force and in line with the College of Policing licensing standards, the authorised Professional Practice (APP) for Armed Policing and the Code of Practice of Armed Policing and Police use of Less Lethal Weapons. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy: Lead and manage Training Sergeants and Compliance Sergeant, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and best practices. Supervise training delivery and assessment of all Authorised Firearms Officers (AFO) and participate in the process of withdrawal of officers' authority to carry a firearm. Delivery: Deliver Tactical Command Training and Specialist Training in line with the requirements of the Armed Policing Strategic Threat and Risk Assessment. Develop and maintain business planning by developing and participating in regional/national networks to receive, share and implement best practice, identify opportunities for income generation and maximise efficiency savings. Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with other forces nationally, Professional bodies, College of Policing, Suppliers of weapons and ammunition. Performance & Development: Ensure continuous professional development within the team, managing staffing, training and skill enhancement. Essential Experience And Qualifications Required For The Role We are seeking a resilient, forward-thinking and highly motivated Instructor with the following skills: Able to effectively lead, manage, develop and support teams of people and specialist functions. Able to manage contract delivery, supplier relations, performance and resources effectively. Qualifications Post holder must meet the Deputy Chief Firearms Instructor standards as set out by the College of Policing within the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum Introduction. Post holder must hold a National Police Firearms Training certificate, hold a teaching or training qualification to an Award in Education and Training (AEAT) and hold or be willing to achieve a Certificate in Education in Education and Training (CEAT) within 12 months and a Diploma in Education and Training within an additional 12 months. Post holder must hold the minimum of an IOSH health and Safety qualification. Post holder will have exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing and the ability to manage budgets. The ability to self-manage as well as manage the workloads of others is essential. Post holder must be computer literate with experience of maintaining training records and possess strong decision-making skills. Post holder must hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force area using alternative transport. Eligibility Criteria-We can only accept applications from police officers who are currently serving in a Home office force. Vetting Required This role requires MV/SC To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years. Your work location Blackrock Training centre, Portishead You will be required to work/travel across the whole geographical area of the Tri-Force and the UK.
