Job Description
As a Head of Tax, you will oversee all tax-related matters within the Group, including maintaining and managing tax policies, procedures, documentation, and leading tax initiatives such as R&D claims or new tax policy approaches.
Your responsibilities include escalating and resolving tax compliance issues, seeking advice on new situations to ensure legislative compliance, and working closely with the Group Financial Controller to ensure adherence to UK tax laws and regulations, including supporting the Group Financial Director under the SAO regime.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage outsourced corporation tax compliance, including supporting information preparation and tax return reviews
* Oversee VAT compliance activities, ensuring accurate and timely submissions
* Identify and assess R&D tax relief opportunities, collaborating with external advisors and relevant departments
* Conduct tax planning and horizon scanning to anticipate and minimize liabilities
* Stay updated on tax legislation changes and implement necessary adjustments
* Provide tax advice to internal stakeholders across departments
* Maintain relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and authorities
* Assist in preparing quarterly tax provisions for financial reporting
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and/or CTA preferred
* Experience in a tax role within financial services or similar regulated industry, with strong UK tax law knowledge
* Expertise in corporation tax, VAT, and R&D tax relief, including tax return and claim preparation
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
* Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities
* Proficiency in tax software and MS Office, especially Excel
