Savills Environment and Infrastructure is a department in the Planning Division that is focused on managing environmental impacts and sustainability for major development projects, providing a range of specialist consultancy services. We have a strong focus on the UK’s infrastructure – such as energy and carbon capture projects to deliver net zero, among many others – but work on projects of all types and scales. Our goal is to shape projects, ensure environmental protection and betterment, and support our clients to get vital infrastructure approved and built. We do this through a high standard of environmental and social expertise, a thorough understanding of consents and regulation, and an appetite to rapidly understand the details of our clients’ projects and businesses. We work closely with Savills Earth, which brings together over 100 professionals from across our business and includes experts from Engineering & Design Consultancy, Property Management, Energy Consultancy, Energy Procurement, Environmental Economics and Research. Our network of offices covers all regions of the UK, including rapid growth in our most recent addition in Brighton as well as our team’s presence in London, Leeds and Manchester. In all of our key regional offices, the Planning and Environmental teams operate alongside other property advisory services allowing cross-disciplinary work on a wide variety of projects. As part of our environmental capability, we are seeking to further expand our environmental and consents management, air quality, climate change, acoustics and health/social impact teams under the respective team leaders, including a yearly intake of graduates. About This Role As a graduate within the Environment and Infrastructure team, you will gain experience across a wide variety of different service lines and skills. Daily tasks for our graduates can vary from: helping to manage complex multi-disciplinary environmental assessments and produce high-quality reporting; being out on-site undertaking environmental baseline air quality or acoustics surveys; collecting and interpreting baseline data to understand local health and socio-economic circumstance; undertaking modelling assessments for carbon emissions, climate risks, air quality or public health; working on sustainability and climate strategy; advising clients in virtual and face-to-face meetings; or preparing proposals and costing to bid on future work. The breadth of experience that Savills graduates obtain is second to none and the pathway will help to provide holistic knowledge across the Savills business whilst focusing on developing your skills in environmental impact assessment, air quality, acoustics, climate and human health. Project delivery: To deliver a high quality of work and effectively balance competing priorities. You will be supported in doing so by senior members of the team. Project management: To help project manage the projects that you are involved in, ensuring that they remain on time and on budget. Business development: To write proposals, cost work, and support wider business development opportunities. Client engagement: To join and input into client meetings as and when required. You will also be encouraged to develop your own network by attending relevant external events and webinars. You will be supported in working towards recognised Practitioner status and ultimately Chartered Environmentalist or equivalent qualification. This will include training in all aspects of environmental assessment and management, including measurements, monitoring and modelling, within which will be data processing and manipulation including statistical analysis. One of the key aspects of a consultancy role is understanding a client’s needs and developing those into an assessment process taking into account appropriate guidance and standards. You will have a mentor who will support and guide you throughout the two year training programme. They will discuss your training and experience needs at regular progress reviews, ensuring you receive the support you require. Your mentor will keep the team leader informed of progress. Career development You will be exposed to writing proposals for projects (including costings), writing reports and presenting your recommendations to guide clients, which result from your critical output input and analysis in the environmental, health and social assessment process. You will be guided to develop both a high standard of technical expertise and the ability to manage projects, together with how to offer expert advice that clients can act upon. You will gain an in-depth understanding of major development projects and programmes for high-profile companies, who are delivering the UK’s net zero infrastructure, new towns, water resources and logistics among other areas. At the end of the two-year period, you will be a competent and confident consultant able to manage smaller projects with minimal support. You will be playing a key role in teams on larger projects, responsible for specific deliverables and visible in a client-facing position. From this point you will continue to receive training and career development opportunities to allow progression to more senior roles. Together, we will also ensure that your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is current, that all staff are fully up-to-date with changes to legislation and business needs, and that you work towards a Chartered or equivalent status.
