Locum Consultant in Restorative Dentistry
We are looking for an enthusiastic consultant restorative dentist to join our established forward-thinking team at University Hospitals Plymouth. The appointee to this locum consultant post will provide high quality multidisciplinary care for our population of South Devon, West Devon and East Cornwall. This post is based upon a appointment of 9 PAs.
You will be expected to provide care for patients requiring oral rehabilitation for trauma, oncology, developmental dental abnormalities, and support for local dental providers. Regular multidisciplinary clinics with orthodontics and HANC teams facilitates treatment planning for complex cases. Our team includes an experienced ASA grade, a dental hygiene therapist and specialist nurse providing acupuncture. We also work closely with our in-house team of technicians. .
Plymouth, Britain's only Ocean City, occupies a stunning location set on the border of Devon and Cornwall, with an active cultural scene and amazing quality of life. Dartmoor, local beaches, the South Hams and South East Cornwall are all within easy reach. Schooling is excellent, with high quality primary and secondary schools (including grammar schools). Interdisciplinary treatment
A significant proportion of patients treated in the department have a need for interdisciplinary management with:
orthodontic/restorative planning clinics.
involvement in cleft and craniofacial services.
core involvement in the HNAC service.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
o Provide advice to dental and medical practitioners working in primary care services.
o Provide advice to hospital clinicians, including consultants in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and a range of medical specialties.
o Liaise with GDPs and specialist practitioners working within the primary care sector and provide advice if requested.
o Provide a high-quality treatment service for patients with HNC, developmental abnormalities and severe trauma
o Provide a high-quality treatment service for the above priority groups requiring multidisciplinary care.
On-call and cover for colleagues
There is no on-call commitment.

Person Specification
Registration and Specialist listing
* Full registration with UK General Dental Council (GDC)
* Entry on GDC Specialist List in Orthodontics
Education, qualifications and special training
* Successful completion of an SAC-approved minimum 3 year training programme in Orthodontics marked by a Specialist Membership in Orthodontics (or equivalent).
* Possession of Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in restorative Dentistry.
* Evidence of successful completion of an SAC-approved, 2 year minimum Senior StR training programme in Resorative (or equivalent) or within 6 months of completion.
* Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (or equivalent).
* Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Restorative Dentistry (or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving this.
Particular skills and experience
* Training in the clinical management of patients requiring multidisciplinary care.
* Experience in the clinical management of patients requiring multidisciplinary care.
Research and clinical audit
* Ability to appraise scientific literature critically.
* Effective participation in relevant clinical audit.
* Research relevant to specialty & publications as 1st author in peer reviewed journals.
* Presentations at local / regional / national / international meetings.
* Demonstrate an enthusiasm to continue with research and clinical audit.
Teaching
* Training in teaching.
* Enthusiasm to help develop undergraduate dental teaching in association with PDS.
* Recognised qualification in teaching/training or enthusiasm to achieve this.
* Experience in Restorative teaching, including clinical and practical skills.
Communication and interpersonal skills
* Well-presented application and CV. Good information technology and presentation skills.
* Ability to work in a team & delegate appropriately.
* Evidence of ability to communicate and operate well with patients & healthcare professionals.
* Demonstration of leadership skills.
Management
* Experience of management of some aspects of a clinical service.
* Willingness to help develop a sub-regional HANC services.
* Evidence of interest and ability in management.
