This vacancy is for 3 days per week for 20 hours. The start and finish times are to be agreed between the manager and the successful candidate.
This role will support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
1. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
2. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
3. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
4. Carry out BMI checks as directed
5. Undertake venepuncture
6. Carry out ECGs
7. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
8. Provide support during minor operations as required
9. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
10. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
11. Ensure clinical waste sharps bins are replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
12. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
13. Deliver vaccinations after training

Professional Conduct
At Ravenscar Surgery, staff are required to dress appropriately for their role. Administrative staff will be provided with a uniform whilst clinical staff must dress in accordance with their role.
Qualifications
Healthcare qualification (level 2 or 3) or working towards gaining equivalent level
Experience
Experience of working in a primary care environment, working with the general public, and in a healthcare setting.
