We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Coordinator within Young Tower Hamlets. The role is central to the success of Tower Hamlets Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme. The DofE makes a difference in young people's lives and prepares them for life and work. In Tower Hamlets nearly 1,000 young people per year take part in the DofE programme to broaden their horizons, develop their leadership skills, learn to work with others, volunteer in their local communities, increase their employability, and prove to themselves they can succeed at a serious challenge. The role will be part of the management team within Sport and Adventure Learning.
The DofE Coordinator will help the council ensure that it meets the requirements of its Operating Licence and upholds the standards and qualities of the programme and ensure more young people than ever start and achieve a DofE Award.
The DofE Coordinator will need to have the ability to manage and motivate a team to deliver The Duke of Edinburgh's Award across the borough. It is also imperative to have a good understanding of The DofE along with Youth Work Values and the National Youth Curriculum.
In this dynamic role, the DofE Coordinator will:
* Lead and manage a team of Adventure sports coaches.
* Be responsible for operationalising the DofE licence by the terms and conditions.
* Coordinate a year-round training offer specifically to enable safe and high-quality DofE delivery as part of further developing multi-agency partners’ delivery capacity.
* Provide management oversight of service-level agreements as well as facilitate regular partnership reviews to ensure compliance and quality with each DofE centre.
* Be responsible for the oversight of health and safety regarding the DofE offer. This includes ensuring that relevant policies, procedures, guidance, risk assessments, reporting mechanisms and training are in place with sufficient management oversight.
Role Requirements:
* Knowledge of current developments and key national policy drivers, legislation and broader influences related to the role.
* Good knowledge and understanding of DofE delivery.
* A relevant outdoor qualification(s) related to the delivery and management of expeditions (e.g. Mountain Leader).
* A JNC recognised Youth Work Qualification at Level 3 or higher.
* Substantial experience regarding planning, delivery, evaluation and continuous development of DofE programmes.

We have fantastic transport links – Tower Hamlets Town Hall is directly opposite Whitechapel Station, which is a minute away. Whitechapel is an interchange station that serves Hammersmith & City, District, and Overground, with quick access to central line DLR and Jubilee lines. We also have the Crossrail Elizabeth line with links to Canary Wharf, Shenfield/Abbey Wood/Heathrow and Stratford, London's best-connected hub.
The Council adopts a flexible working policy and approach. Due to the frontline and delivery nature of these roles, employees will mostly work in person from either the Town Hall or Urban Adventure Base.
