A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our hugely successful mathematics team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about mathematics; teaching engaging lessons which will permit students to appreciate the importance of the subject and develop the skills they need for life.
A large and well-resourced mathematics department situated in the heart of the school; we are proud of our departmental base where all members of the team benefit from their own classroom equipped with an interactive whiteboard. Colleagues feel supported in this setting and value the stability of this collegial and experienced team. Excellent continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities provide all members of the team to confidently develop and progress in their careers. As a school with a vibrant and growing sixth form, there are opportunities to teach mathematics to all age ranges from Year 7 to Year 13. The department regularly invests in resources including online subscriptions to enhance the mathematics curriculum and student learning experience.
Our mathematics department is one of the strongest departments within the school and prides itself on a culture of collaboration and teamwork. All members of the mathematics team have access to resources on the shared area and are encouraged to share good practice at departmental meetings. Student engagement in mathematics is high and we are proud of the strong culture of achievement and curiosity we have nurtured with our students.
In Years 7 and 8, our mathematics curriculum is mapped by the national curriculum and underpinned by the following pillars of learning: number, algebra, shape and data. In GCSE Mathematics, students follow the Pearson (Edexcel) GCSE curriculum. At KS5 the A level Maths content is organised so that all the AS material is taught in Year 12 before teaching of the A Level content begins.
Our Progress 8 scores are amongst the highest in the school, and are well above the Slough and national average, placing us well within the highest performing departments in the country. Further information can be found on our curriculum page on our website: The Westgate School - Maths
