Theatre/Mortuary Technician Vacancy: Operating Theatre, Mortuary & Biological Services Unit
The post holder will be required to work in the operating theatre, assisting in the set-up and delivery of surgical training courses and contract research studies. They will also be working in the mortuary, assisting with HTA-related tasks and will have the opportunity to work in the biological services unit.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, keen to learn new skills and progress in their role, and will be an excellent team worker. They will be expected to undertake training to obtain a Home Office personal licence for in vivo work, and we will provide full in-house training for the tasks involved. Rota-based weekend and bank holiday work will be required.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
* Assist in receipt, tracking, labelling, storage, preparation and disposal of HTA licenced material and compliance with relevant SOPs
* Preparing and assisting with running of surgical training courses and research. Training will be provided
* Compliance with GLP/Non-GLP for research studies and general work and compliance with SOPs
* Monitoring and reporting clinical observations, both pre and post-regulated intervention
* Involved in manoeuvring, anaesthesia, administering medication, rendering procedures and monitoring in an in vivo environment
* Carrying out Schedule 1 procedures
Person Specification:
* Experience of working in a relevant setting (e.g. mortuary, operating theatre)
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A-C including in English and Mathematics
* Strong organisation and observation skills, with problem-solving abilities
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Enthusiastic, dedicated, and accountable in their work
* Proficient in using software such as MS Excel and Word
* Proof of right to work in the UK
* Experience in BSU/in vivo procedures and a strong commitment to welfare in the facility
* A degree in a relevant scientific area
* Home Office Licence Modules A-C with procedural experience
* Experience in human cadaver handling
