Job Description
Intro
We offer flexible working, part-time in our lovely London office (featuring all the essentials - fancy drinks fridge, striped walls and furry friends in abundance) alongside remote working from home, depending on business requirements. We’re also a certified Great Place to Work and a certified London Living Wage employer.
Don’t know Dock & Bay? You’re missing out, because we’re great (and humble). Here’s a quick intro:
Our founders, Andy (Head Poncho) and Ben (Towel Wizard of Oz), started Dock & Bay back in 2015, after sharing the same struggle of standard towels being too bulky for their backpacks while travelling. It’s a hard knock life, eh?
Following some intense brainstorming - that means pulling down a big red curtain and sticking pieces of white paper to it to create our now iconic stripes - D&B’s quick dry, 100% recycled wonders were born.
Fast forward 8 years and Dock & Bay have become a certified B Corp, with over 100 products in 8 categories, selling in the UK, Australia, the US, Canada and Europe. Our mission is to make the world brighter, and we need your help (if you fit the job description, obviously).
We are on the list of Great Places to work in the Retail, Hospitality & Leisure sector, so you KNOW we’re going to look after you.
THE ROLE IN A NUTSHELL
Reporting into the Senior Print and Product Manager, your role as the Print Designer will be to contribute to the creation, process, and design of our prints, helping drive the visual identity of the brand’s print handwriting. This is a highly creative yet commercially driven role, so a strong background in illustration, paired with a keen understanding of commercial trends and market needs, is essential. You will present new trends, themes, and design ideas to the business, working closely with the wider team to share knowledge and insights. Your focus will be on the design and development of printed products, ensuring alignment with brand aesthetic and commercial goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (WE’RE GETTING SERIOUS NOW)
Strategy & Concept Development
* Analyse trade reports, category sales, and SKU performance across global markets to inform print direction and customer preferences.
* Identify key trends, colours, competitor analysis, trade shows, and global team feedback.
* Research relevant cultural moments and events to shape seasonal print concepts.
* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure creative direction aligns with business strategy and market needs.
Print, Product & Packaging Execution
* Design bold, original, and scalable patterns that work across our product selection, maintaining brand identity and commercial appeal.
* Develop and finalise packaging artwork (e.g. wraps, pouches, swing tags) that aligns with product prints and elevates the customer experience.
* Ensure all artwork is clean, layered, labelled, and file-ready. Produce accurate CADs and compile comprehensive print and packaging handover packs for factories.
* Review samples and gold seals for colour accuracy, quality, and placement. Provide feedback and support updates as needed.
* Maintain Pantone consistency across products and packaging. Record development processes for future marketing and storytelling.
Product Development & Factory Liaison
* Support product development from concept to production, ensuring print intent is preserved across materials and formats.
* Liaise with overseas factories using Monday.com, email, and WeChat. Approve samples only when quality, colour, and specs meet expectations.
* Deliver clear specs and feedback to ensure cost-effective improvements and consistent execution.
Range Handover & Internal Support
* Collaborate with copy, e-commerce, Ops, and Comms teams to name designs, finalise SKUs, and share Pantone references.
* Create range plans and handover assets that inspire and inform cross-functional teams.
* Support storytelling by linking each design to trend research, customer insights, or cultural touchpoints.
Process & Workflow Management
* Work within the Agile framework using Monday.com to track progress and meet critical path deadlines.
* Communicate blockers to the Senior Product Manager and help maintain up-to-date systems and product documentation.
Innovation
* Stay updated with the latest design trends and integrate relevant practices into our design process to maintain a cutting-edge creative approach.
* Stay current with design tools, market trends, and industry standards.
* Share inspiration and feedback to help foster team creativity.
* Support any junior team members, provide constructive critique, and contribute positively to team culture.
Sustainability Awareness
* Consider material and design impact across products and packaging, supporting wider sustainability goals.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
* 5+ years of industry experience in print design, ideally within fashion, home, or lifestyle sectors.
* Strong portfolio showcasing original, bold, and commercially successful pattern designs across various product types.
* Proven experience creating seamless repeats and artwork suitable for both digital and physical production processes.
* Confidence working from initial concept through to production-ready artwork — including CADs, print specs, range building and packaging assets.
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Illustrator, Photoshop); confident in file setup for print production. Procreate or Adobe Fresco experience is a plus.
* Experience liaising with factories and suppliers on sampling, colour approvals, and quality control.
* Familiarity with Pantone matching systems and maintaining colour consistency across SKUs and packaging.
* Understanding of design scalability across formats and substrates (e.g. textile, paper, cardboard, recycled materials).
* Background working within a seasonal creative calendar and responding to trend direction.
* Knowledge of working with Agile tools and systems (e.g. Monday.com) is a plus.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills; comfortable presenting work and sharing feedback.
* Awareness of sustainability considerations in design and materials.
* A proactive, collaborative approach with a passion for creative storytelling through pattern and print.
We are a small team that values a dynamic and visionary pattern designer who can contribute to elevating our creative output and shaping the visual identity of the print handwriting for the brand. If you are passionate about design and have the experience and skills to make an impact, we want to hear from you.
The perks
Firstly, you’ll be joining a glorious team of towel traders, with a shared mission to make the world brighter through colour and saving the planet. Secondly, we have a fully stocked drinks fridge and more salt & vinegar snacks than you can shake a stick at. Thirdly, you’ll be involved in intense discussions, like whether a burger is a sandwich or not (it definitely isn’t). Fourthly, you’ll genuinely feel right at home here, working hard, having fun and actually making a difference. We’re not sure if ‘fifthly’ is a word, so we’ll stop now.
Plus, you’ll get other cool things like the Cycle to Work scheme, tech scheme, a wellbeing membership, health insurance, regular team socials as well as some glorious Dock & Bay products to show off to all of your friends.
We’re a certified Great Place to Work and London Living Wage employer, too. Because we know how to look after people.
