We are seeking a Healthcare Assistant for a locum position with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) at Cottesmore Medical Centre, Kendrew Barracks, Oakham, Leicestershire.
This role involves working 37.5 hours per week, delivering high-quality care to MoD service personnel.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to provide basic ward-based nursing care in a Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) facility for the Defence Medical Services (DMS) Population at Risk (PAR).
2. Assist the Lead Practice Nurse by delivering general nursing care under supervision, following delegation protocols.
3. Support medical administrative tasks as needed.
4. Assist Medical Officers and practice nurses in various clinics, including Primary Healthcare, Occupational Health, chronic disease management, and health promotion activities.
5. Record clinical observations and tests such as visual acuity, ECGs, venepuncture, peak flow, spirometry, urinalysis, and specimen preparation, within your scope of competence and according to policies.
6. Communicate effectively with patients and work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet patient needs.
7. Adhere to infection prevention and control standards.
8. Operate equipment safely, following local directives and safety policies.
9. Complete mandatory training as per DPHC guidelines.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
* NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent; or Level 2 with Care Certificate and relevant experience.
* At least 2 years of recent healthcare experience in general practice or similar environment within the last 3 years.
* Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), AED, and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).
* Proof of training or competency in ECG recording, venepuncture, urinalysis, specimen preparation, and aseptic techniques.
* Valid safeguarding training certificates up to Level 2 for children, young people, and adults.
