We are looking for a band 2 Ward Clerk / Receptionist who is motivated, enthusiastic and caring with a genuine interest in working with patients with cancer.
The successful candidate should be able to work on their own but also as part of a team.
You must possess excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate a sympathetic understanding and empathy with patients.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients on arrival to the unit.
The post holder would have the ability to be flexible and organise and prioritise their own workload, demonstrating the ability to work on their own or as part of a team.
They would be responsible for maintaining patient information on the Patient Administration System used within the unit to ensure accurate and up to date records are kept.
The post holder would be responsible for answering the chemotherapy unit reception phone, answering patient queries and signposting accordingly.
Working for our organisation
The Chemotherapy service is led by a Senior Sister who is supported by her deputy. We work closely with the Systemic Anti- Cancer Treatment Clinical Nurse Specialist and her community team to develop an extended service. The oncology and haematology service consists of specialist Clinical Nurse Specialist who work closely with the Consultants and the Chemotherapy Nurses. The delivery of the Chemotherapy, recognising side effects and to be able to escalate and treat any problems appropriately.
Effective communication skills are essential.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
* Educated to GCSE (grade C or above) including English and Maths equivalent
* Evidence of personal development and a willingness to undertake any further training necessary for the post.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in working with multiple departments (haematology/Oncology experience an advantage)
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
* Significant and recent relevant experience with at least 1 years experience of working in the NHS, Outpatients in particular
* Experience in using Microsoft Office and Excel
Desirable criteria
* Experience of Nursing and communicating with oncology/haematology patients
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
* Experience in the use of Patient Administration System or similar
* Evidence of effective communication including written, oral and electronic with nursing and medical staff
* Evidence of ability and flexibility to organise and respond quickly to changes, organising and prioritising workload to meet deadlines within the defined boundaries of the department.
* Demonstrate sympathetic understanding and empathy with cancer patients
* Evidence of ability to work on own initiative but also as part of a team
* Evidence of ability to develop systems to promote efficient and effecting working within the team
* An understanding of the meaning of confidentiality and the requirement for this to be maintained
