Our client is an innovative biotechnology company based outside of the centre of Cambridge. They have built a platform to synthesise DNA and RNA which provides exciting possibilities for ensuring cheaper, faster and more accurate DNA / gene constructs than traditional plasmid-based methods. In a key phase of their growth, our client is looking to onboard an experienced Senior Molecular Biologist to lead and support New Product Development projects.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity for an experienced molecular biologist (several years in a R&D role in industry is necessary). As a Senior Scientist, you will conduct a wide range of molecular biology based experiments in relation to Synthetic DNA, mRNA synthesis and molecular cloning projects. Responsibilities will include:
* Leading and developing new product development projects.
* Design and run molecular biology and biochemistry experiments, typically involving molecular cloning (Gibson, Golden Gate / restriction enzyme etc), DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, Western blotting and other techniques.
* Development of new assays and laboratory protocols for ongoing projects.
* Overseeing more junior staff members and supporting them with challenging projects.
* Plan, refine and execute experiments which align with overall project plans.
* Work individually and collaboratively within the R&D teams.

The ideal candidate will have the following:
* BSc / MSc / PhD in molecular biology or similar subject (essential – also happy to consider equivalent experience).
* At least 4+ years of experience in leading complex molecular biology R&D projects in industry focused around cloning or DNA/RNA R&D (essential, equivalent experience considered).
* Expertise in several of the following techniques: cloning (Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate, HiFi etc), bacterial transformation, qPCR, Western blotting, protein purification and extraction (essential).
* Experience in troubleshooting and developing assays (essential).
* Prior line management or supervisory experience (desired).
