I have written a stageplay that I wish to showcase at the upcoming Highbridge Festival of the Arts. Performance date is 10 or 11 March 2025 (tbc).
The play is in two acts, each about 10 minutes duration.
Responsibilities
1. Understand at least the basics of Stage Acting.
2. Ability to assimilate, memorise and understand nuances of a written script efficiently; this is a tight deadline production (about 4 weeks).
3. Development of your character.
4. Efficient use of stage space, good verbal and (especially) non-verbal communication.
5. Ability to project your voice and speak clearly; there will be no microphones or artificial amplification.
6. Understand and follow stage directions.
7. Ability to work creatively, positively and constructively with your fellow cast members and off-stage support.
8. Work together to create a rehearsal schedule, including in-person practice and online conference calls if necessary.
Qualifications
I am seeking 4 or 5 (ideally 2 male, 2/3 female) keen amateurs or professionals who wish to develop their acting portfolio. Please describe any acting experience you have.
You will require good communication skills and be able to rehearse your part independently and/or with your fellow cast members.
Good verbal communication is important, as is the ability to act creatively with a minimum of props. This is largely a 'talking heads' piece, but the acts have settings, one 'internal' and one 'external' (both on a professional theatrical stage).
Additional Information
I appreciate the deadline is tight, so being 'word-perfect' will be a challenge, but it is not essential. The script is quite light-hearted and should be fairly easy to learn.
The main priority is that you are dedicated to working with each other to give this 'one-off' performance your best shot.
Sorry, there's no money in it, no pay, no expenses, zero, nada, zilch. BUT - you do get the opportunity to tread the boards AND receive professional critique from the Officiating Festival Judge, who is a professional performer, voiceover artist and choreographer, who has toured nationally and performed in London’s West End.
Qualified to PhD standard, a teacher and freelance performance coach with over 15 years’ experience, she is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), The Theatre and Performance Research Association (TaPRA), and the Society of Theatre Research. I would say such feedback is worth its weight in gold to any budding stage actor, regardless of your level of past experience.
Finally, we're all humans here. Be nice, and good things will happen.
Due to the short time schedule, the closing date for Applications is 10th February 2025.
