Charnwood Nursery school & family centre is an OFSTED OUTSTANDING rated pre-school who are looking to appoint a Business and Finance Manager to join the small and friendly team in Heaton Moor, Stockport.

£30,000 to £35,000 FTE
(£23,654 to 27,596 actual)
Term Time plus 3 weeks (one week at Easter and two weeks in the Summer)
(41 weeks per year)

Person Profile
Our Business and Finance Manager is a person who creates confidence in their actions in leadership and management of the trust, especially in relation to finance and personnel issues. They are a team player, building good working relationships at every level internally and externally. They place high value on working in partnership with parents and families, staff and visitors by being approachable, friendly and able to communicate effectively at all times. They must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to differing situations throughout the day.

Principal Accountabilities
* To ensure effective financial management of the trust’s business to fulfill the organisational vision and policies of the Trustees.
* To be the principal adviser to the Trustees on business and financial matters.
* To ensure that all company secretarial, regulatory and statutory obligations are met on behalf of the Trust.
* To ensure that the staff and resources of the nursery are managed within an agreed budget and framework of delegated authority; to ensure the delivery of excellent services and to achieve its strategic aims.
* To ensure that appropriate, effective systems and controls and risk assessments are in place to safeguard the assets and integrity of the organisation.
* To represent Charnwood Trust externally and promote the image and reputation of the charity, building effective relationships in line with the Trustee’s aims and policy.
* To ensure that all of Charnwood activities are conducted in accordance with the Trust’s Christian values and ethos as set out in its constitution.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
1. Continually review management systems, structures and financial performance of the Trust to ensure sustainability and continuing development of an effective organisation responding to changing circumstances.
2. Attend and report to SLT meetings (and occasionally Trustee meetings) on specific areas of responsibility.
3. To support the Head teacher in the efficient and effective management of Charnwood enabling the Trustees to fulfill their functions and to ensure the trust board receives appropriate and timely information on all relevant business/financial matters.
4. Together with the Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team, identify and evaluate needs, opportunities and resources for the development of new areas of activity for the Trust.
2. Financial Management
1. Ensure that Charnwood Trust business plans, budgets and cash flow forecasts are prepared to an appropriate level of detail and an agreed timetable, and that they are kept under regular review.
2. Monitor and report on financial performance against income, expenditure and other financial targets so the Trust Board is aware where action needs to be taken to improve performance.
3. Manage the production of annual audited accounts to meet regulatory and statutory requirements.
4. Ensure effective processes are in place to specify, source, purchase and receive goods and services to support the nursery’s activities and achieve value from the use of all available resources.
5. Ensure correct payment of salaries, allowances and other remuneration, statutory deductions, pension contributions.
6. Advise the Trustee board on salary status, salary rises and minimum wage matters.
7. Manage financial IT systems with support of the Finance Officer following segregation of duty controls.
8. To keep abreast of funding changes in the early years/education sector working closely alongside the Headteacher and key departments within the local authority.
3. Risk Management
1. Identify operational risks to Charnwood trust in consultation with the Head teacher.
2. Ensure that all relevant risk mitigation plans are in place and acted upon.
3. Ensure compliance with all financial and legal reporting, safeguarding, charity, health and safety, data protection, GDPR, fund-raising and any other regulatory requirements.
4. Ensure that all appropriate financial, personnel and service-user records are maintained with appropriate levels of security.
4. Communication and development
1. Develop and maintain open, effective, and timely communication both internally, amongst service users and in the wider community.
2. Develop and direct fundraising and marketing strategies and within that, set clear fundraising objectives and targets.
3. Research and develop new income streams for the Trust.
4. Oversee and monitor effective online and social media presence for Charnwood.
5. Identify and manage media and other opportunities to promote and communicate the work of Charnwood Trust.
5. Personnel Management
1. Ensure that suitably able and qualified staff are recruited, inducted, developed and retained within the Admin and buildings team.
2. Contribute to the functioning of a mutually supportive Senior Management Team in which individual roles are clearly defined but where a sense of collective responsibility is also fostered.
3. Support the SLT to develop and empower staff to reach their potential through training and development resources, and to ensure that there are integrated personnel and welfare policies and systems in place.
4. Develop and maintain management systems to facilitate open, effective, and timely communication for staff.
5. Line manage ancillary staff including catering, admin and grounds staff.
6. Organise regular team meetings and supervision of ancillary staff.
7. Annually appraise ancillary staff in line with ‘Supporting Performance at Charnwood’.
6. Resource Management
1. Ensure that there is effective management and development of Charnwood’s resources, in particular that the premises are efficiently utilized, add value to Charnwood’s services, and comply with legislative requirements.
2. Ensure that the nursery’s buildings, grounds, premises and goods are maintained in a state of good repair and cleanliness.
3. Maintain and regularly review an inventory of Charnwood’s buildings and goods. Ensure that repairs and maintenance are scheduled and carried out in a timely way to a high standard.
4. Develop the use of the nursery facilities, including buildings and equipment, as a resource for others.
5. Ensure that all required risk assessments and health and safety procedure/regulation is being adhered to.
7. Partnership and Stakeholder Relationships
1. As part of the SLT, develop and foster good relationships with local residents, local businesses, churches and community groups, Local Education Authorities, and other relevant organisations.
2. Lead the formation of constructive partnerships with appropriate organisations in addressing matters of joint concern that grow Charnwood’s reputation.
3. Oversee the development of a network of supporters, service-users and Friends of Charnwood.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
* To understand and follow Charnwood policies and procedures.
* To ensure the wellbeing of the children and follow the Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures where you have any concerns.
* To act on any health and safety concerns reported as soon as possible.
* To attend training and team days as appropriate.
