We’re passionate about empowering people, and these posts are an exciting opportunity for the right candidates to be involved in delivering a whole host of events and services for all ages, making a real difference to the local community.
Reporting to the Library Supervisor, the successful candidates will be responsible for basic library duties, as well as supporting library users on their health and wellbeing journey using the Boditrax machine and Healthy Chats. They will support children with reading from early years at Bounce and Rhyme sessions to our Chatterbooks junior reading group. Gone are the days of libraries being quiet, as proven by the popular Cuppa and a Chorus sessions. Assistants also support library users with the People’s Network computers and at Digital Drop-in sessions. With lots of variety, the role is fast-paced and not just about books and literacy.
Duties can include:
* Promoting library events and activities.
* Supporting customers on the Boditrax machine.
* Supporting customers on the People’s Network computers.
* Maintaining the book stock.
* Keeping abreast of new developments & resources.
* Finding new and innovative ways to engage with the community.
Previous experience within a library is not necessary as full training will be provided. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who:
* Has team working skills but is able to work on their own initiative and unsupervised.
* Is friendly and approachable.
* Loves a varied and changeable working day.
* Is willing to learn.
The role can be physically demanding and involves moving around the workplace, assisting customers, moving library stock to and from shelves, restocking display areas, and loading/unloading small crates of library materials/book stock and caddy liner boxes.
When completing the supporting statement within the application form, please ensure you cover all the points detailed on the essential criteria of the employee specification; otherwise, you may not be shortlisted for an interview.
