Work Group Engineer (WEG Engineer)

The Opportunity
In this role you’ll be working within the Work Management team, part of Pre-Operations, who play a vital role in ensuring that work is efficiently planned, executed, and tracked, helping teams meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality results the first time. Working closely with multiple departments, we align priorities, allocate resources, and monitor progress to drive operational efficiency and support the success of key business objectives.
As Hinkley Point C (HPC) moves from construction towards commissioning, and operation, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of commissioning and operational activities within a nuclear power plant. This role demands an elevated level attention to detail. You will ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and reinforce safety standards across the team.
In this role as a Work Engineering Group (WEG) Engineer, you will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and approving Work Order Cards (WOC) (Work instructions and risk assessments) for maintenance teams, as well as supporting commissioning teams and driving standards within the site. With a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities, you will play a key role in supporting HPC through its Pre-Operations milestones. Over time, you will develop expertise in deploying and executing Work Management processes, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of one of the UK’s most significant energy projects.

What you’ll be doing
In this role you will be fully training in all company processes develop in-depth knowledge of a pressurised water reactor systems and company processes, gaining valuable insights from the UK nuclear fleet and other Nuclear New Build projects. This hands-on experience will provide you with the technical expertise needed to support Hinkley Point C as it moves toward operation.
Your specific area of focus will be shaped by business needs, your previous experience, and your career aspirations, giving you the opportunity to drive your own development while playing a critical role in preparing the future operating organisation. Additional roles and responsibilities will include:
* Contribute to the integration of routine maintenance into the asset management IT system (Enterprise Asset Management System), ensuring a seamless transition to operational readiness.
* Collaborate with the Equipment Reliability team to define and implement routine maintenance requirements for critical systems on the operational station.
* Support the creation of standards, procedures, and frameworks that drive safe and reliable operations, aligning with industry best practices, including the INPO AP928 process.
* Work closely with the commissioning team to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance overall project delivery.
* Assist in the development and implementation of Work Management processes and procedures, ensuring effective maintenance planning and execution.
Who you are
To excel in this role, you will need a strong technical foundation in engineering, with expertise in maintenance, risk assessment, Uk safe working regulations and system engineering. You will play a key role in ensuring effective work management and maintenance planning in a highly regulated environment, requiring excellent organisational skills, technical knowledge, and clear communication.
Essential Requirements:
* Background in engineering, with a relevant HNC or higher or equivalent, preferably in electrical engineering.
* Familiarity with Maintenance Manuals and System Design Manuals, including the ability to interpret Engineering Drawings.
* Experience in writing and using maintenance work instructions in a safety driven environment.
* Proven experience in conducting and documenting risk assessments, ensuring compliance and safety.
* Strong organisational skills with proficiency in IT systems.
* Clear and effective written communication skills, with the ability to document technical processes concisely.
Desirable Requirements:
Experience in operating key asset management tools, such as Asset Suite (Asset Management System), data reporting tools, and Microsoft applications.
