Main duties of the job The post holder will provide an interface between the surgical and nursing disciplines which ensures a cohesive, holistic and researched approach to the management of patients within the Service of Worcestershire Acute Hospital NHS Trust. The post holder will have direct clinical involvement and knowledge of the General Surgery Specialty with evidence of relevant post basic study. The post holder will have a role in the development of services with the Surgical Assessment Unit. The post holder will have advanced nursing skills and support nurse led initiatives and independent practice. The post holder will liaise closely with Consultant Surgeons, members of the multi-disciplinary team, Directorate Manager, Professional head of Service, Matron, Ward Managers. The post holder will support junior medical staff and stand in for junior roles. The post holder will have a role in clerking, assessing, prescribing and planning treatment for emergency surgical admissions, in SDEC, SAU, A&E, GP referrals via Single Point of Access (SPoA) and WMAS referrals. The post holder will demonstrate a high level of professional and autonomous nursing practice. Using comprehensive, advanced knowledge and skills the post holder will plan care and will be competent to initiate and undertake specialist treatments and investigations.
