Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term Senior Clinical Perfusionist position within the Clinical Perfusion Department at UHNM. The successful applicant will have full UK registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion & have at least three years experience post qualification or is able to demonstrate suitable exposure.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities include:
* Clinically manage and control the temporary replacement of a patient’s cardiopulmonary function to enable cardiac surgery.
* Operate auxiliary equipment for patient safety and effective clinical outcomes.
* Assist in the development and management of the Clinical Perfusion Department.
* Participate in the “on call” and late duty rotas.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Choose the most appropriate equipment and disposable items for the procedure.
* Prepare equipment and disposables for cardiopulmonary bypass for routine and emergency cardiac surgery.
* Operate the heart lung machine and auxiliary equipment to maintain the patient’s clinical condition.
* Prepare and operate equipment for autologous blood salvage procedures.
* Prepare and operate equipment for the insertion and management of intra-aortic balloon catheters.
* Undertake and interpret blood gas analysis.
* Maintain, clean, and calibrate equipment, keeping relevant departmental records.
* Conduct informal in-service and external formal educational sessions.
* Directly supervise trainee perfusionists and assist in their development.
* Participate in research and development projects.

Full UK Registration CCPS
* Have full UK CCPS registration.

* Three years post qualification or relevant experience.
