Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS foundation trust (GHNHSFT) is looking for a new interventional radiologist to fill a role in an expanding team.
GHNSFT is a large, multi-site Trust with a very busy acute medical and surgical take. We act as the vascular hub for Gloucestershire and Swindon, providing comprehensive upper and lower GI surgery (with HPB links with Birmingham), urology, and oncology interventions, including a 24/7 IR on call to support all of these services.
The Trust has prioritised IR, interventional cardiology, and vascular surgery in the plans to create a modern ‘fit for the future’ trust. Acute and complex services are being centralised to the Gloucester site with a centre of excellence for elective services being delivered in Cheltenham.
As part of this development, we have installed a Siemens Artis Q IR suite in the Image Guided Surgery ‘Spoke’ at Cheltenham with 6 day-case beds.
The complex and acute work will be based in Gloucester Royal Hospital with work nearly complete on a new Image Guided Surgery Hub which will include 3 cardiac catheter labs, 2 interventional radiology labs, together with a shared 16 bed day-case unit, as well as a new hybrid theatre being built in main theatres.
We support a 1:7 24/7 IR on call rota with 5 full-time and 1 part-time IR consultants. This post is to expand that team. The candidate will be expected to be competent to perform emergency IR procedures independently. Support can be provided for upskilling in areas of interest.
Main duties of the job:
1. The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high-quality General and IR care to the patients presenting to the Department and participate in the 1 in 7 IR rota.
2. To examine and treat patients within the Department.
3. To support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff and to support radiographic staff.
4. To actively participate in an IR-related MDT of the post holder's subspecialty interest.
5. To actively participate in Discrepancy/IR-related M&M meetings and document attendance.
The organisation is a forward-thinking place to work, that listens to staff and patients. The Trust has a financial and strategic commitment to Interventional Radiology services and associated development of the diagnostic radiology department including expansion into a Community Diagnostic Hub.
In addition to being a forward-thinking department with ambition to expand, we are situated in a beautiful part of the country with easy access to the Cotswolds. The Cheltenham Festivals scene ensures there is always something interesting going on, and there is a wealth of things to do in the surrounding countryside. For families, Cheltenham and Gloucester have an excellent selection of state and independent schools with some of the best Grammar schools in the country. Cheltenham is consistently rated as one of the best cities in the UK to raise a family in various polls. #J-18808-Ljbffr
