GSL Education are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN Teacher to join a specialist school in Sheffield. This role is an opportunity to empower young learners with diverse needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD).
About The Role:
As an SEN Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in delivering personalised learning experiences to students with diverse needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. You will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and support staff to create an engaging and structured environment that fosters confidence, independence and academic progress.
Responsibilities of SEN Teacher:
* Planning and delivering adaptive lessons, ensuring accessibility for all learners with varying needs and abilities.
* Utilising multi-sensory teaching strategies to support children with complex learning requirements.
* Fostering a positive and engaging classroom environment, using behaviour management techniques to promote resilience and self-regulation.
* Working closely with SENCOs, therapists, and support staff to implement individual learning plans (IEPs).
* Utilising assistive technology and alternative communication methods, such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC devices, to support language development.
* Monitoring student progress, assessing learning outcomes, and adapting teaching methods accordingly.
* Providing pastoral support, ensuring students feel safe, valued, and motivated to succeed.
* Encouraging independence and confidence, equipping students with essential life skills for their future.
* Engaging with parents, carers, and external professionals to create a holistic support system for each child.
The successful candidate will:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent with a specialism in SEN (or willingness to undertake relevant training).
* Have proven experience teaching students with SEN, ideally within a specialist or inclusive mainstream setting.
* Demonstrate a strong understanding of Autism, SEMH, SLCN, and learning disabilities, along with appropriate teaching strategies.
* Be experienced in differentiated lesson planning and able to deliver an engaging, multi-sensory curriculum.
* Have a working knowledge of behaviour management strategies, such as Team Teach or Trauma-Informed Practice (desirable).
* Be able to work collaboratively with SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies to provide a holistic and child-centred learning approach.
* Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
