County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust
Do you want to influence the employment prospects for the population of County Durham and Darlington and engage in real partnership working?
You will be working with multiple stakeholders to assist in leading and developing the Trust's and NHSE's Widening participation strategy by facilitating entry into a wide range of NHS roles. The role will have a focus on widening participation and include reducing health inequalities through employment across County Durham and Darlington, ensuring the inclusion of all system partners incorporating health, social care, the voluntary and community sectors and education.
You will contribute to the Trust's role as an anchor institution and look for ways that it can add social value. The role will have a great deal of autonomy and would suit somebody with experience of managing projects with many stakeholders.
Interviews will be held week commencing 10th March 2025.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to champion the widening participation agenda and support transformational change. You will motivate colleagues to work together to deliver success and achieve agreed outcomes.
You will develop an approach to working in partnership; including meeting and reporting structures, communications and engagement planning as well as developing other key strategic documents.
Working closely with Durham County Council, Darlington Council and other partners you will deliver the outcomes through planning, initiating, running and evaluating recruitment initiatives and identifying future opportunities and stakeholders.
You will coordinate the Trust's Education and Outreach activities through a wide range of participating staff and engage with local education providers to develop employability schemes that allow participants to apply for roles within the NHS, particularly for hard to fill roles.
You will work to reduce health inequalities across the Trust's Geography focusing on areas of social deprivation.
This will be a challenging but rewarding role offering a great deal of personal satisfaction.
Job responsibilities
You will develop and maintain a comprehensive plan and review it on an ongoing basis, identifying where there is risk that objectives or timescales will not be met.
You will increase understanding of barriers to widening participation across County Durham and Darlington with respect to accessing NHS and, to some degree, Health and Social Care sector careers and then identify specific activities or programmes that can break down those barriers.
You will also assist with scoping and identification of areas of unmet need and lack of opportunities relating to specific groups within the County Durham and Darlington population.
You will be required to develop networks and work collaboratively with local communities, government/local authority/NHS and other key stakeholders to better understand the local challenges that need to be overcome.
You will represent the Trust at a local and national level concerning widening participation initiatives sharing and receiving good practice as appropriate.
In partnership with other key stakeholders such as further education colleges, you will need to devise inclusive, diverse and innovative methods to facilitate the development of employable skills related to the wide range of NHS careers.
This will require a rigorous communications strategy, reaching all stakeholders and, where appropriate beyond, ensuring projects aims, objectives and benefits are cascaded.
