Harmeny Education Trust is a charitable organisation providing therapeutic care and education to children who have experienced early years trauma through abuse, neglect and family disruption, referred from all over Scotland. We currently work with children and young people aged 5-18, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis.
Our core service, Harmeny School, comprises:
· An education service, which includes an outdoor learning team.
· A care service, with five residential cottages and one day service cottage. The service also includes a therapies manager coordinating evidence informed approaches for a variety of our staff.
· Support services, made up of finance, estates, catering and domestic services, fundraising, IT, HR, learning and development, and admin teams.
Harmeny is committed to achieving the highest possible standards of care and education and to continuously improving our work. We have recently developed a practice framework, The Harmeny Way, which describes the unique combination of therapeutic approaches used to guide our work and ensure consistent practice with children and young people placed with us.
We wish to engage an Outdoor Learning Consultant to provide on and off-site support for for our experienced Outdoor Learning Team.
The post-holder will observe Outdoor Learning Facilitators at least once per term (four per year) enabling children with social, emotional and behaviour needs, to experience adventurous activities.
The post-holder work alongside the Outdoor Learning Facilitators to review and ‘sign off’ Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments and any other relevant risk documentation for agreed activities.
The post-holder will be required to provide service for 15 days within the financial year, 9am - 5pm per day (with a one-hour lunch break). The daily rate of pay for services is £400.

Key Responsibilities
1. Carry out an annual audit of Harmeny Outdoors’ policies, daily operating procedures, systems and practice.
2. Support an initial review of Harmeny Outdoors in order to determine the future delivery model and support subsequent reviews and audits of this and it’s implementation.
3. Make recommendations for improvement to the Harmeny Outdoors Service.
4. Provide advice and guidance on the procurements, storage and management of equipment including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and provide an annual audit of this equipment.
5. Provide adventure activity CPD and incident management training as required and appropriate.
6. The Consultant will be required to completed Harmeny Education Trust Ltd compulsary induction training and regular re-assessments. This includes training provided in house and by external providers.
7. Complete and become a member of the PVG Scheme.
8. Support AALA applications and inspections as required.
9. Provide support around training and upskilling of staff.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
1. Suitable qualifications to be able to provide consultancy such as an MCI (Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor) or equivalent.
2. Experience of providing consultancy work within the outdoors.
3. Experience of providing consultancy work to other educational settings.
4. Experience of the AALA Application and inspection processes.
5. A desire to help children experience the outdoors.
