The Role Summary
As a Production Engineer, you will be setting up and operating audio-visual and lighting equipment to deliver technical production services within the events and entertainment industry for a range of clients across multiple sectors.
Key Duties
* Prep and test equipment ready for events.
* Load vans or trucks and travel to events.
* Set up and troubleshoot audio, video, and lighting systems.
* Operate audio, video, and lighting systems.
* Work individually or as a team.
* Work closely with a client to understand expectations and requirements.
* Perform basic repairs on equipment and cabling.
* Participate in job planning and system design.
* Participate in Electrical and LOLER testing.
* Driving Licence.
* Have good communication & organisation skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Good time management.
* Ability to problem solve.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications.
* Working knowledge of industry-standard audio, video, and lighting systems.
* Understanding of power distribution systems; BS7909.
* Must have a Degree in AV related discipline or 3 years of demonstrable industry experience.
* Rigging certificate or experience.
A Production Engineer will be expected to work across all disciplines, working as a team to deliver an event. However, we know many people will have specialisms within the general role, the expected knowledge of these specialisms is detailed below.
Audio Engineer
* Knowledge of basic audio principles – e.g, acoustics, waveforms.
* Good working knowledge of operation, set up & safe use of speaker systems owned & hired by d&b solutions, including associated software.
* Good working knowledge of audio consoles owned & hired by d&b solutions – Yamaha, Midas, DiGiCo.
* Mixing skills – Basic musical understanding and the ability to critically listen to audio.
* Understanding of radio technology for the entertainment industry.
* Awareness of noise at work regulations & the effect of exposure to noise for all team members & the public.
* Knowledge of basic video principles – e.g. video formats, resolutions, signal flow, EDID.
* Good working knowledge of operation, set up and safe use of projection and screen systems owned by d&b solutions – Barco, Canon.
* Good working knowledge of the operation of image processing and transmission systems – Barco, Extron, Lightware, Kramer, Analog Way.
* Understanding of media servers, video production and playback systems inc. QLab, ProPresenter, Watchout, Disguise, vMix.
* Sound working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint & Apple Keynote.
* Basic understanding of video codecs and file formats/wrappers.
* Understanding of live streaming encoders.
Lighting Engineer
* Knowledge of basic lighting systems & optical theory.
* Good working knowledge of operation, set up & safe use of lighting systems (generic and intelligent) owned & hired by d&b solutions.
* Understanding of lighting control systems inc. DMX, 1-12V.
* Sound understanding of rigging systems and safe working practices.
