GSL Education are recruiting a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Southampton. About the Role:
As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a crucial role in providing individualised support to students with additional learning needs. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists, you will help create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that enables students to reach their full potential.
Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with a range of SEN needs, ensuring they are engaged in lessons.
* Assist in the implementation of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), adapting support to meet individual needs.
* Use assistive tools, sensory resources, and structured interventions to enhance learning.
* Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
* Help implement behaviour management strategies, using positive reinforcement techniques.
* Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to adapt lesson materials and monitor student progress.
* Provide pastoral support, ensuring students feel safe, supported, and encouraged.
* Assist students with personal care tasks or mobility needs, if required, maintaining their dignity and independence.
Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Job Requirements:
* Experience supporting children with SEN (desired but not essential).
* A strong understanding of Autism (ASC), ADHD, Dyslexia, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, and other learning difficulties.
* University students and fresh graduates are encouraged to apply – this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in SEN education.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Patience, resilience, and adaptability to meet the varying needs of students.
* Ability to use assistive technology and alternative communication strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton) is beneficial.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
