Introduction:
A young lady in Pembroke Dock is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support with her care needs. She suffers with Scoliosis of the spine and Fibromyalgia which leaves her in chronic pain. The employer is looking for an assistant who is understanding and empathetic of neuro-divergency. This person requires an assistant who is able to support her with managing her mental well-being. The person must be empathetic of the employer’s sensitive background. She uses a fold up wheelchair so assistance is needed when outside and must be able to fit the wheelchair in the boot of your car.
This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable her to manage her support and meet her care needs independently.
The successful applicant should be friendly, very understanding, caring and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of this young lady. They should be able to support her to make her own decisions around her care needs and encourage her to maintain her independence.
The main duties to be included within this role are to:
• Assist and encourage with washing/showering and daily personal tasks.
• Supporting her whilst shopping and preparing breakfast and dinner and prompting her to take her medication.
• Helping the person to maintain a habitable environment.
• Support with running the household such as mail and finances.
• Supporting the person with art projects and other hobbies.
• Enabling her to interact socially in her community at groups such as ‘Bespoke’ and art groups.
• Supporting her to develop independent living skills.
• To provide companionship in her home, including engaging in conversation with her and providing her with social interaction
• Support the employer to access appointments and advocate for the person whilst there.
• Ensuring her safety at all times during your working hours.
• To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the young lady during your working hours.
• Be mindful of safeguarding issues and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
• Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should she need medical assistance.
The client is looking for a Personal Assistant that fits the following person specification:
• Must be animal lover
• Caring, patient, very understanding and supportive.
• Responsible and honest
• Proactive and self-motivated
• Has good local knowledge
• Good timekeeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
• Good communicator
• Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship
Other Requirements:
A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
