Head of Science - SEN School Group, Wakefield Start Date: April 2025 Contract Type: Permanent A highly reputable SEN School Group in Wakefield is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Head of Science to join their team from April 2025. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and shape the science department in a thriving educational environment, dedicated to supporting students with special educational needs. Key Responsibilities: Lead the science department in planning, delivering, and monitoring high-quality science education tailored to the needs of students with SEN. Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment. Oversee the development and implementation of engaging, accessible science curricula that support students' individual learning needs and goals. Provide leadership and support to a team of science teachers, including mentoring, performance management, and professional development. Manage resources and equipment for the department, ensuring they are used effectively and safely. Contribute to the wider school community, including attending meetings, supporting school-wide initiatives, and engaging with parents and carers. Regularly assess student progress and make data-informed decisions to ensure the highest levels of achievement. Act as a role model for excellent teaching and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in both teaching and leadership practice. Key Requirements: Qualified teacher status (QTS) with a specialism in science. Proven experience as a teacher of science, ideally with experience in special educational needs (SEN). Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and supporting a team. In-depth knowledge of the National Curriculum and how to adapt it to meet the needs of students with SEN. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents. Passionate about SEN education, with a commitment to providing the best possible learning experience for all students. Ability to use data effectively to track progress and inform teaching practices. Relevant SEN qualifications or experience (desirable but not essential).
