We are looking for a Mobile HGV automotive vehicle Technician, based in Bargeddie.
As a Mobile HGV automotive vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics for various types of vehicles and Trailers at our Bargeddie site. This position offers the unique opportunity to develop expertise in cryogenic vehicle maintenance, setting you on the path to becoming an Automotive/Cryogenic Vehicle Maintenance Technician. You will receive on-the-job training and support to enhance your skills in servicing and maintaining cryogenic delivery systems used in our vehicles.
The role of mobile Fleet/cryogenic Vehicle Maintenance Technician within the UKIE distribution department is a key role for ensuring that fleet equipment operated by Air Products in the UK and Ireland is maintained and repaired to the highest standards.
This position involves the maintenance, repair, and inspection of vehicles and systems that operate with cryogenic components, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in heavy good vehicle, trailer maintenance, inspection and repair, and a commitment to maintaining high operational standards. The role offers the candidate to train and develop completing on the job training to become an Automotive/Cryogenic Vehicle Maintenance Technician.
As a qualified, trained, and competent professional, the Fleet Cryogenic Maintenance Technician is an integral member of the distribution team, whose contribution is vital for the provision of safe, reliable, and efficient fleet assets, for use in the transportation and delivery of Air Products goods and services across the UK and Ireland.
Working as part of a small team, primarily linked to the Fleet Maintenance Workshop in Carrington (Manchester), the Fleet Maintenance Technician is required to work primarily outdoors and as the role develops the introduction of a workshop will be required. There may be a requirement to work away from the normal workplace, as and when required (i.e. at the roadside or at the premises of Vendors). The role is primarily based in Bargeddie but travel inside the UK and Ireland may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
1. The Fleet Cryogenic Maintenance Technician shall be responsible for performing Routine Maintenance tasks and repairs on a wide range of specialist equipment, including vehicles (ranging from 3500kg–44,000kgs GVW), and trailers.
2. Maintenance tasks shall be performed to the highest standards and shall conform to the requirements as set by the UK Government “Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency” (DVSA); plus, additional requirements as per legislation set by the “Health and Safety Executive” agency.
3. A thorough understanding of the DVSA “Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual” and the “Categorization of Defects manual” is essential.
4. Accurate completion of appropriate documentation is an essential component for ensuring that Air Products complies with our legal obligations around fleet maintenance and repair activity.
5. The Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for creating a record of each maintenance task performed, using both traditional paper documentation plus electronic information systems.
6. The Post Holder shall be required to rectify equipment defects where necessary; the ability to apply investigative and analytical techniques being essential.
7. Understanding of complex electrical and pneumatic systems is essential; as is the ability to interpret technical data; to understand complex schematic diagrams, diagnostic guides, and remedial action plans.
8. The ability to use technical diagnostic systems is essential for fault finding and equipment programming.
9. The ability to understand and adhere to company Operating Procedures, Method Statements and Risk Assessments is essential; as is the ability to perform Dynamic Risk Assessments, to ensure the safety of yourself and colleagues.
Qualifications and Key Competencies
Education: Time served apprenticeship, in mechanical engineering, automotive technology. Certification or associate degree in mechanical engineering, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
* Experience in vehicle maintenance, or a similar technical role.
* Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
* Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Development of the role
The role involves development and on-the-job training for the maintenance and repair of our cryogenic liquid and gaseous product handling and metering equipment.
Ensuring cryogenic delivery equipment on the vehicle and trailers are inspected maintained and repair in line with the company’s procedures. This includes performing pressure and leak tests and verifying the functionality of safety devices such as relief valves. The technician also reviews documentation, repairs, or replaces defective components, and ensures compliance with notifiable body. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are critical to ensure the vessel is safe, compliant, and ready for operational use.

* Maintenance and Repairs activities include Inspect, diagnose, and repair cryogenic vehicle systems, including tanks, pumps, valves, and insulation. Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety of cryogenic components.
* System Operations: Perform testing and troubleshooting of cryogenic systems under varying pressure and temperature conditions.
* Monitor the integrity of cryogenic storage and delivery systems to prevent leaks or malfunctions.
* Technical Expertise: Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to optimize vehicle performance. Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints specific to cryogenic systems.
* Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols when handling cryogenic materials such as liquid nitrogen, oxygen, and argon. Ensure all work complies with applicable regulations, standards, and company policies. Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs.
* The ability to perform loading, unloading, and purging of cryogenic liquid products is essential, as is the ability to perform these tasks for gaseous trailers.
* Equipment Handling: Operate specialized tools and machinery for welding, brazing, and component assembly. Manage cryogenic fluid transfers as needed.
* Customer and Team Interaction: Provide technical support and training to team members or other internal departments as required.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues about project status and challenges.
