An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced physical activity specialist to become part of the dynamic and proactive Imperial Cardiac Health & Rehabilitation Service. Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust is the UK’s first academic health sciences centre and provides an internationally renowned tertiary cardiology and cardiothoracic clinical service and has a strong track record in both clinical and basic sciences research. For this challenging and fulfilling post we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic individual with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the physical activity components of cardiac rehabilitation.
You will be a BACPR qualified physical activity instructor or equivalent with relevant clinical experience in a wide variety of physical activity settings. This should ideally include a minimum of 12 months experience in delivering cardiac rehabilitation within a cardiac rehabilitation setting. You will need to be very enthusiastic about this area of work as well as being self motivated, possess good organisational skills, and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
You will be responsible for providing expert clinical practice in the field of cardiac rehabilitation. The post holder will also act as a resource to other professionals on cardiovascular disease and associated treatments and issues. You will be taking part in ongoing audit and research activities to maintain quality care provision. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will need to be committed to sharing of good practice, development of robust professional networks and support of colleagues.
• Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work – ensure that work is within professional standards and Cardiac Rehab clinical guidelines.
• Undertake multi-disciplinary and autonomous assessments using evidence-based outcome measures. Clients will have multi-pathologies relating to coronary heart disease such as high risk patients with symptomatic atherosclerotic disease
• Following competent assessment, to use advanced clinical reasoning and analysis to establish client-centred goals that provide individual treatments and programmes
• Clearly convey complex knowledge of treatment techniques, biomechanics, anatomy and physiology to patients and other staff
• Participate in the Cardiac Rehab assessment process, performing overview assessments as appropriate and communicate relevant medical information assessment details and advice across agencies following Trust Guidelines for sharing of information and informed consent
• Through clinical reasoning and analysis, to identify clients’ needs, establish clinical risk and to liaise and refer clients to relevant services including other Health Care Professionals, Outpatient Physiotherapy, Falls Group and Voluntary agencies as appropriate
• Prescribe appropriate equipment and educate clients in the safe use of this equipment in order to maximise clients’ independence and safety
