Working in the Highway Development Implementation team, develop your civil engineering skills and have the opportunity to progress your career within South Gloucestershire. Joining the team as a Technician, we will help you attain skills, knowledge and experience, with a view to progressing to Assistant Engineer level.
Making a significant contribution, you will support the design and implement developer funded highway works and ensure that these are designed and constructed in accordance with approved standards and agreements. What will you be doing?
1. On a daily basis you will participate in the activities of a team involved with the design and implementation of developer funded highway works.
2. You will ensure that any highway works undertaken by developers and in-house teams are constructed in accordance with national and local standards, S38, S, and other Council requirements.
3. In the role you will visit development sites and make decisions with developers and their consultants and contractors to make certain that highway works are designed, constructed and implemented to agreed technical approvals and appropriate standards of workmanship.
4. As part of the Technical Approval process you will assist in checking developer submissions to ensure that they comply with national and local standards. You will promote safe working practices at all times and to make sure the implementation of the Authority’s policies and procedures for Health and Safety matters are carried out.
What we need from you
5. You must be working towards or partly qualified with a professional or technical qualification eg HNC/HND, EngTech
6. If not qualified you must be able to demonstrate considerable relevant experience
7. It is essential that you have experience working within an civil engineering or an appropriate technical discipline including manging technical aspects of projects
8. You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of highway infrastructure as it relates to technical specifications, legislation and codes of practice.
9. You must have a working knowledge of CDM and health and safety in construction/Engineering
10. We require you to be able to demonstrate experience of drafting technical reports for fellow professionals along with elected members and councillors
