New Directions Liverpool is currently seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant for a long-term position at a well-regarded SEND school in Liverpool, rated 'Good' by Ofsted. This role, available for immediate start, involves working closely with students who present significant behavioural challenges, providing tailored support to foster a positive, nurturing learning environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in helping students manage their behaviours, overcome personal challenges, and achieve their full potential.
A key requirement for this position is the ability to calmly and effectively de-escalate physically challenging situations. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals dedicated to making a meaningful impact in special education.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
* Have excellent communication skills.
* Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
* Be encouraging and supportive.
* Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children's development.
* Ensure the safety and well-being of the student.
Although the role is based around education support, due to the children's personal needs and behaviours, they require consistent mentoring, motivating, and advising, as well as some counselling, so their well-being can remain stable, enabling them to achieve much more in their education and work towards a more independent future.
Behaviours displayed by the children can be challenging, so applicants must be prepared to practice de-escalation and calming techniques, as well as maintaining an empathetic approach and understanding that behaviours stem from other problems. Candidates from care, sports, psychology, criminology, sociology, and youth work backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Job Specification:
* Have experience working with children or adults with additional needs.
* Able to support children of all abilities.
* Have a positive and ambitious attitude towards learning.
