We have an exciting opportunity for a band 4 Senior Therapy Technical Instructor (STTI) to join our established team of therapists to work with the urgent care and frailty therapy team at Northampton General Hospital.
The team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Support Staff, and you will be supported by the qualified staff in the role and encouraged to develop your knowledge and skills. The successful candidate will work alongside the therapy staff and the wider multi-disciplinary team on the Nye Bevan Assessment Unit, the Emergency Department, and the Frailty Assessment Unit.
Our service is currently moving from a 5-day service to 7 days per week. The successful candidate will be expected to be part of the weekend service rota and the possibility of developing into extended hours.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
1. Actively provide therapy care for patients as part of the multi-disciplinary team at NGH.
2. Provide specific evidence-based assessments and treatments under the indirect supervision of qualified therapist using a therapy framework.
3. Provide technical skills to assist a qualified Therapist in treating a variety of patients.
4. Provide therapy care to in-patients and occasionally patients in their own homes.
5. Have access to, read and understand medical notes and information from the MDT to inform decision making regarding suitability for intervention.
6. Be able to interpret clinical observations and understand the implications of therapy interventions.
7. Represent Therapies at ward board rounds, gaining information to feedback to the qualified Therapists and communicating any relevant Therapy updates relating to patients.
8. Provide effective input into the work of the Trust, to support the achievement of our vision and values.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Takes responsibility to ensure that Professional Registration is up to date at all times and does not lapse or expire and to inform line management immediately with any concerns of if registration lapses or expires (all registered staff).
This post involves treatment to children and/or adults at risk, as defined by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). It will therefore be necessary for the post holder to apply for and be in receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check. (this statement relates to patient facing clinical roles)
The Trust requires all new starters to subscribe to the DBS update service, where it is a requirement of the role.
Be responsible for maintaining own vaccinations that are applicable to the role.
Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
Attend statutory and mandatory training and refresher courses as necessary.

Person specification
Education, training and qualifications
* Personal portfolio of evidence of work-based learning in healthcare
* Or NVQ level 4 in care-related topic or good standard of education equivalent to A level or BTec
* Foundation degree or equivalent in health-related subject
* A combination of short relevant courses
Knowledge and Experience
* Worked in an acute NHS healthcare environment
* Worked as a band 3 within health care
* Knowledge and understanding of roles, responsibilities and working practices of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists
* Understanding of basic anatomy and physiology relevant to Therapy care including muscle groups, gait and skeletal anatomy
* Recognise boundaries of own scope of practice and duty of care, seeking assistance as appropriate
Skills
* Well-developed communication skills, including interpersonal skills, liaison, influencing and negotiation.
* Ability to work on own without immediate support.
* Ability to organise and prioritise own workload.
* Ability to use initiative in addressing own learning needs and appraise own performance.
