About the role:
We are seeking a Section Manager to support the research carried out in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology.
The Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology is headed by Professor Matthew Fisher and carries out research into all aspects of infectious disease epidemiology. It is one of the most well-known departments in this field (having over 200 staff and students in total). It fosters interdisciplinary research in the study of infectious disease, using approaches ranging from mathematical studies of transmission dynamics and disease control, molecular epidemiology and pathogen evolution, to field programmes of research in disease control.
What you would be doing:
You will support the Departmental Manager to provide an efficient and smooth-running administrative service to staff and students in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology. The post supports the research activities of the Department regarding finance, project management, pre/post award grant applications, monitoring and general administration.
You will assist the MRC GIDA Scientific Manager to provide support specific to some of the activities including responsibility for maintaining and updating records, reporting, and the organisation of various activities including workshops, an annual away day, and the Scientific Advisory Board.
What we are looking for:
The successful candidate will be an excellent team worker collaborating effectively with the Departmental Manager, the Scientific Manager, academic staff and project teams, as well as other administrators and colleagues in the Department, external partners, and collaborating organisations and grant funding bodies.
Key duties and responsibilities include the following:
* To support PIs in the preparation of new research and contract applications in accordance with sponsors’ terms and conditions, using the Worktribe costing tool.
* To lead on HR matters for the research group and ensure that all HR administration activities relating to research-funded and general-funded staff are carried out correctly, efficiently and in a timely manner, and align with Departmental and Faculty HR procedures.
* To liaise with academic staff and together with the Scientific Manager, to collate and report MRC GIDA outputs for the MRC data collection and impact assessment exercise, Researchfish.
* To assist academic leads in managing MRes recruitment and set up, teaching, and student enquiries, and to assist the Scientific Manager in managing the MRC GIDA 1+3 MRes and PhD programme.
Essential requirements
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Experience of administrative work and financial processes within a Higher Education setting, ideally within a scientific area
* Experience monitoring project budgets, financial reporting, processing invoices and expenses
* Experience arranging large meetings and workshops
* Experience making international travel arrangements for groups and individuals

£45,700 to £55,240 per annum
