Vacancy for Digital Engagement Archivist at University of Westminster
28 October 2024
London, England
Fixed Term
We are seeking a creative and committed individual who enjoys finding new ways to engage audiences through technology. With new funding from Research England, we are enhancing our digital capabilities and are looking for a Digital Engagement Archivist to help lead and shape how the Westminster Menswear Archive interacts with the world in the digital age.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Lead the preservation and cataloguing of our archive using recognised professional standards and innovative digital methods to ensure it remains accessible for generations to come.
2. Develop and implement a digital outreach strategy to engage a broad range of users, from researchers to the general public.
3. Leverage our digital content, processes, and outputs to maximise our outreach activities and create interactive, user-friendly experiences that bring fashion history to life.
4. Optimise the AtoM archive collection management system to meet the evolving needs of our users.
5. Provide support and foster connections with the research community and the wider public through digital platforms.
You should have experience in digital preservation, cataloguing, or information management; you’re comfortable with emerging technologies and digital tools and are excited by the idea of using them to enhance the accessibility and relevance of our collections. You enjoy exploring new ways to present historical and contemporary content and engage diverse audiences online. You’re able to connect with people, whether through digital platforms or in-person, and you’re skilled at building meaningful relationships with users. While you’re forward-thinking, you’re also meticulous about managing digital records with care and precision. Ability to work effectively in a small team and deliver to deadlines is also important.
The post is based at the University’s Harrow Campus. A hybrid working pattern is feasible including some remote working but the postholder is expected to work a minimum of one day a week at Harrow and to be available for monthly in-person team meetings.
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Danielle Sprecher, Westminster Menswear Archive Curator at D.Sprecher@westminster.ac.uk.
