Nuclear Medicine/DXA Clinical Technologist/Radiographer
Nuclear Medicine Services provide highly specialised services to hospitals and GP's within South West Wales. The post holder will be part of a highly skilled team, providing consistent bone density (DXA) and Nuclear Medicine imaging services using highly specialised patient imaging equipment.
The post holder will undertake and deliver imaging services for all types of patients under close supervision of technical staff and in the course of their duties:
* Provide patient support, counselling and welfare of patients for the DXA and Nuclear Medicine, including ensuring the correct patient preparation and preparation compliance ahead of complex procedures.
* Work independently within their scope of competence using a range of highly specialised patient imaging.
* Learn to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and liaise with suitably qualified colleagues as needed.
* Deal routinely with frail patients and their relatives, requiring tact and empathy, especially for those who may be physically or mentally impaired, to gain their cooperation during highly complex investigations.
* Deliver excellent patient care while in the department, which will involve manual handling of critically ill and incapacitated patients, some of whom may be barrier nursed, requiring the implementation of infection control procedures.
Main duties of the job
This is a part-time, 12 months temporary post / secondment at band 5 level in the Nuclear Medicine department in the mobile unit at Hywel Dda and Singleton Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring adequate levels of cover to imaging and DXA scanning in the service, which may include long scanning on weekdays and weekends, following an adequate period of training and for supporting the service flexibly during the remaining of the contracted time.
We are looking to recruit an exceptionally motivated Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Clinical Technologist at Band 5 to join our friendly and dynamic team. The Radiographer/Clinical Technologist will be expected to provide technical support to the DXA service but also across the full range of Nuclear Medicine Services. This is an exciting opportunity to take part in a currently fast developing setting.
Nuclear Medicine at Singleton is a friendly and progressive service. Continuing professional development of all staff is encouraged and supported. Full training will be provided to suitable candidates. The selected candidate will be required to pursue RCT or HCPC professional registration during their employment.
The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential. The ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service is essential for this post.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc in an appropriate physical, biological or technological based discipline or degree for the College of Radiographers or equivalent vocational experience.
* Prepared to work towards professional registration as a Clinical Technologist/Radiographer.
* BSc Honours in Nuclear Medicine or Radiography or Recognised Training in Nuclear Medicine or Radiography.
* Professional registration as Clinical Technologist (RCT) or Diagnostic or Therapy Radiographer (HCPC).
* DXA Qualification.
* MSc in an appropriate physical, biological or technological based discipline or degree for the College of Radiographers or equivalent vocational experience.
Experience
* Practical experience of measurement and/or general technology in the physical or biological sciences.
* Participation in a scientific, technological or clinical project.
* Experience in DXA scanning.
* Experience in radiopharmacy.
* Experience in conventional/SPECT-CT Nuclear Medicine imaging scanning.
* Experience in PET/CT imaging.
* Experience in Diagnostic CT or other radiography sub-specialty.
* Proven experience in i.v. administration of radioactive substances or i.v. contrast.
Skills
* Experience using Microsoft software.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to think critically.

£30,420 to £37,030 a year Per annum pro rata.
