Job title: editor Location: Preston (hybrid) Hours: 35 hours per week The role: Responsible for the management of Farmers Guardian’s print and digital platforms. Working closely with the editorial director and media director, implement the content strategy for the FG brand across the print and digital platforms, ensuring that the content and wider tone of the editorial reflects the needs of readers and their differing personas. Managing a dynamic team of journalists and content creators, this role requires the incumbent to be a figurehead within the business and head up events for both the business and also within the wider agricultural industry. Duties and responsibilities:
* Lead and edit Farmers Guardian across print and digital platforms
* Responsible for overseeing the weekly print publication, ensuring that content is topical, relevant and delivered to a high standard of design and grammatical accuracy
* Ensure the digital workflow is embedded into working processes and that content is being maxmised online, ensuring it is right for the audience and also technically optimised (SEO)
* Be a driving force in FG’s digital transformation, leading a skilled team of multi-media content producers and editors who are the best in their field.
* Serve FG’s audience with a multi-channel approach to engaging content which includes video, audio and other facets which can ensures FG’s content stands out
* Lead the development of innovative content-led campaigns which position FG as a campaigning voice within the sector, as well as developing existing flagship campaigns such as 24 Hours in Farming and Save Britain’s Family Farms
* Work closely with the marketing team, sales team, and product managers to develop and edit compelling content that drives customer engagement and supports business goals
* Line manage a diverse team, supporting their training and development
* Represent Agriconnect publicly and convey a positive image externally
* Attend and speak at events, exhibitions, conferences and be the face of the Farmers Guardian brand
* Contribute ideas to benefit the business wherever possible
* Perform any ad hoc duties that are relevant to this role
Skills and abilities
* To implement, uphold and articulate the vision for the brand to the team and the wider business, as well as to clients, and to evolve that vision in a fast-paced digital world
* Ensure publications are produced on time and within budget, and in line with objectives set for circulation and readership
* Have a critical eye for detail and ensure print and digital products are managed to a high standard and level of accuracy
* Consistently produce high-quality output; be reliable and professional with a flexible style
* Initiative and innovation: contribute ideas for developing the magazine and wider portfolio, especially in the digital space
* Stay on top of digital trends in a rapidly evolving landscape and utilise innovation to benefit the team and products
* Leadership. Be a strong and efficient manager within the team and also convey leadership credentials outside the business as a figurehead within the industry
* Be able to speak publicly and to represent the brands brilliantly; to communicate your vision in a multi-platform approach. Confident conference moderator, chairperson, and speaker with up-to-date knowledge of the agricultural sector
* The ability to gain positive and active commitment to the vision for FG, its strategies and objectives
