Why this job matters
The BT Group Transformation Governance & Assurance team is part of the Strategy & Change (S&C) Unit led by the Chief S&C Officer, which in turn is part of the BT Group Corporate Units.
One of the primary objectives of the Group S&C team is to accelerate and enhance the delivery of the transformation goals. In support of this, the objectives of the Group Transformation Planning team are to:
1. Secure commitment to the baseline roadmap for approach, milestones, timeline, dependencies, cost and benefit, quality and risk.
2. Ensure transformation is fully funded (capex, opex and specifics) and provide oversight to investment decisions that impact the Group Transformation Portfolio.
3. Ensure that actual or potential deviations from the baseline roadmap, benefits and scope are controlled.
4. Optimise performance and contractual relationships with 3rd party suppliers that support transformation-related activities and systems.
What you'll be doing
The role works closely with the Group Transformation Planning Director, Group colleagues, and unit transformation leads to deliver the financial, change, reporting and decision discipline necessary to drive successful delivery of Transformation.
Key elements of the role include:
Reporting & Decisions
1. Track and report progress of Transformation, including delivery and outcomes, consolidating information from all units to create coherent insight for the ExCo and Board.
2. Maintain the relevance of reporting through continuous improvement and adapting to changes in the lifecycle.
3. Consolidate and identify decisions required to sustain or enhance the transformation plan. Shape and schedule these with the relevant bodies and communicate decisions taken to all relevant stakeholders. Work with the planning team to ensure plans are updated to reflect decisions taken.
Finance & Change
1. Develop and maintain a Transformation forecast for benefits and costs, including capex, opex and specific (below the line) costs.
2. Optimise tracking mechanisms, moving from an MS Office base to system-based dashboards.
3. Develop an impact assessment module that enables scenario modelling for changes to transformation priorities. Use this module to identify opportunities for improved Group return.
4. Participate in the capital investment planning, representing Group transformation to ensure that necessary funding is allocated to move with the pace required to meet commitments.
5. Implement and run a change control mechanism to ensure that changes to the Transformation plan or scope are considered and informed decisions are taken. Communicate changes to all relevant stakeholders and ensure plans are updated to reflect.
Benefits
1. Implement and operate a benefit tracking mechanism with clear, aligned metrics.
2. Work with the Reward team to incorporate these into leadership goals.
3. Govern the handover of benefit realisation from programme to BAU teams when appropriate.
Leadership
1. Provide advice and coaching on governance and assurance issues to the S&C teams and wider transformation profession BT-wide.
2. Drive knowledge sharing on emerging trends and changes in transformation principles and practices.
3. Identify and remove obstacles to delivery of transformation objectives, acting as a point of escalation and using escalation paths where necessary.
The skills you'll need
1. Skilled in processing large and disparate data sets and conditions to generate meaningful insight.
2. Strong financial and programme disciplines.
3. Highly resilient and able to navigate competing agendas to build consensus.
4. Intellectually curious and able to rapidly build a comprehensive understanding of the BT Group, its businesses and value drivers, and the sector and markets in which it operates.
5. Skilled and inspiring communicator, capable of designing and delivering clear, compelling and engaging presentations and of influencing a wide range of audiences, sometimes with a need to balance conflicting stakeholder objectives.
6. Outstanding interpersonal skills with a genuine interest in, and curiosity for, people - and the ability to engage and to build relationships both internally and externally at all levels.
The experience you'll have
1. Experience of working on transformation programmes in multiple industries, in particular cost efficiency programmes and business operation simplification.
2. Led financial control and reporting workstreams for a large portfolio.
3. Led PMO for complex, multi-year programme in a matrixed environment.
4. Implemented and run a benefits tracking mechanism for a large portfolio.
5. Experience of portfolio and programme tools.
6. Experience of programme and delivery methods including Agile and Hybrid.
7. Good understanding of the technology and telco sectors, including current and emerging developments around Cloud, SaaS and AI/GenAI.
8. Experience of inputting into, and the financial analysis of, transformation plans, including capex and opex allocations and timings, and building these into Group roadmaps, with interdependencies incorporated.
