Leading Tier 1 main contractor is looking for 1-2 experienced Design Managers to join their design team, focussing on public sector new build schemes, schools, hospitals and prisons. This role is to ensure that the design intent is effectively managed through review, interrogation and management of the design during pre-construction and on live projects. This role requires time being spent between project sites and the head office in Derbyshire / Regional Offices. Ideally the design manager will have a degree or equivalent, in a relevant construction related discipline with a strong design / project delivery background Full management of the Design Team throughout a project and during the full construction process, often on multiple projects, to maximise opportunities and mitigate risks. Interrogation of tender and construction stage quotations and management of subcontractor workshops. Ensure all project requirements are met and that all information requirements are obtained in a timely manner Being able to prioritise and manage multiple design requirements Manage the design relationship between the Client, Design Consultants, designing subcontractors and statutory bodies, acting as the point of contract on design matters. Provide comments on appointments and advise on the need for additional services Ensuring accurate scopes of services Coordination of design team roles and responsibilities Sound understanding of design obligations Ensure compliance by the company and all design consultants/subcontractors within the scope of the CDM Regulations. Legislative compliance Adherence to company management procedures Understanding of CDM Identify any variances from scopes and specifications contained within CPs or ERs as the design develops. Ensure that deliverables are achieved and design obligations are met within budget. Attention to detail Participate in the collation and handover of completed design records to the Client (CDM Files and O&M Manuals). Understanding of sustainable construction Ensuring legislative compliance BREEAM understanding Understanding of legislative requirements A qualification in BREEAM is not a requirement but detailed understanding would be a benefit Management of the BIM process including: Direct management of external Information Managers Satisfactory outcomes of regular BIM Audits Compliance with contract requirements Understanding of BIM process Understanding of Viewpoint 4P Chairing of clash detection meetings Review of COBie information and geometry for contractual compliance Produce federated models and distribute to the BK team Produce the BEP / PEP (with assistance from the Regional Document Controller) Assist with the completion of capability and capacity assessments (with assistance from the Regional Document Controller) Undertake EIR / AIR appraisals Ensure that design team reviews are completed at regular intervals, and that any corrective actions required are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Maintains timely flow of information to the surveying/site teams Appreciation of project deadlines Participate in lessons learned forums throughout construction and post project reviews Effectiveness of design role Review areas of improvement People skills Construction knowledge Understand the location of stored contract and subcontract documentation. Management of Common Data Environments is a key requirement of this role Knowledge and use of Viewpoint 4P, H Drive and Egnyte IT skills Agree and action a handover process to ensure that there are no drawings or RFIs on Viewpoint 4P awaiting release / closure by the design team. This will enable a more achievable management of drawings following handover from the design manager.
